Hiking on the Everglades National Park trails, Miami

For visiting the Everglades from Miami, you have to take a full day trip into account. Both the place to take an airboat tour and the National Park are a long drive. This is normal because the alligators don't live in the city center.

The most beautiful spot for an easy walk is the Royal Palm. Here you see most wildlife and the area is well maintained. The Park Authorities invested in paved trails and boardwalks. This is the perfect picture of the Everglades with its animals: birds, lizards, turtles and alligators. Have fun making amazing wildlife pictures.

Om de Everglades te bezoeken vanuit Miami raden we je aan een volledige dag vrij te houden. Zowel de plaats voor de airboat te nemen en het Nationale Park liggen op een redelijke rijafstand van Miami. Dit was te verwachten daar alligators niet in het stadscentrum leven. 

De mooiste plaats voor een eenvoudige wandeling is de Royal Palm. Hier zie je de meeste dieren en het gebied is mooi aangelegd. Men investeerde in wandelpaden en houten platformen. Dit is het perfecte beeld van de Everglades met zijn dieren: vogels, hagedissen, schildpadden en de alligators. Veel plezier met het maken van natuurfoto's.

Buffalo Tigers Airboat Tour on the Everglades, Miami

Visiting the Everglades with such a fast low flying turbine boat is great. It gives you a mixed feeling of floating and flying over the water and grass. Our driver had the ability to spot wildlife. We saw many birds and beautiful vegetation.

What most people want to see are the alligators and there were plenty of them. They came extremely close to the boat and the guide gave them some food. Some of them almost climbed in the boat, a bit frightening. According to the guide they were harmless and he demonstrated this by petting their tongue. This one is calm, it is a female. This one is still young, also no problem. We kept a distance to be sure.

De Everglades bezoeken met een laag vliegende turbine boot is een groot avontuur. Het geeft je een gemixt gevoel van drijven en vliegen over het water en gras. Onze bestuurder hadden een heel goed gevoel om dieren te spotten. We zagen heel wat vogels en mooie vegetatie. 

Wat de meeste bezoekers echter willen zien zijn de alligators en hiervan was er geen gebrek. Ze kwamen extreem dicht bij de boot en de gids gaf hen wat eten. Sommigen klommen bijna aan boord, een beetje angstaanjagend. Volgens de gids waren ze allen zachtaardig en hij demonstreerde dit door over hun tong te strelen. Dit is een kalme, het is een vrouwtje. Deze is nog jong, ook geen probleem. We bleven op een veilige afstand voor de zekerheid.

Fantastic views but boring bus tour in Denali National Park

Denali National Park is one of the most famous nature preserves of Alaska. Every travel agent or cruise line company is offering this park in their excursions. The highest mountain sometimes visible from the park is Mount McKinley, recently renamed to Mount Denali. When we visited the park it was visible in the morning hours, the first time in three weeks. You need to be lucky.

Tourists are not allowed to drive on the park roads with a car. The only possibilities are a bicycle or an eight hour bus tour. Bicycles are only for professionals, the distance is too big and mountain roads steep. We selected the bus tour and our expectations were high, there are so many animals living in this park.

It was however a big disappointment. Besides a squirrel, one grizzly bear about half a mile away and one karibu, we saw no wildlife. We have to admit that the sceneries and mountain views were excellent. The bus tour was too long, too slow and very boring. We would recommend to skip Denali National Park on your Alaska trip and focus on more beautiful areas. There is a lot to choose from.

Denali National Park is één van de beroemdste natuurreservaten van Alaska. Iedere reisagent en rederij bieden excursies aan naar dit gebied. De hoogste berg zichtbaar van in het park is Mount McKinley, recent vernoemt tot Mount Denali. Toen wij Denali bezochten was deze in de ochtend zichtbaar, voor de eerste keer in drie weken. Je moet ook wat geluk hebben.

Toeristen mogen het park niet binnen met de wagen. Het is wel toegestaan met de fiets of via een acht uur durende busrit. Het fietsen is voor professionals, de afstand is te groot en wegen te steil. We kozen dus voor de busrit en onze verwachtingen waren hoog, er leven dan ook vele dieren in Denali.

Het werd echter een grote teleurstelling. Behalve een eekhoorn, één beer op een km afstand en één kariboe, zagen we geen dieren. We moeten toegeven dat de landschappen en bergen prachtig waren. De busrit was echter veel te lang, te traag en enorm saai. Wij zouden aanraden Denali National Park niet te bezoeken tijdens jullie Alaska reis en u op mooiere gebieden te richten. Er is heel veel keuze.

The wonder of nature at Luca National Park, Chile

We have seen many National Parks in the USA and fabulous nature all over the world. Luca National Park is enormous and we didn't have any expectations. Nature surprised us, a place we never heard of before, blew us away. Luca National Park must be one of the most impressive nature reserves in the world and almost no one in Europe has heard about it. How is this possible?

The Andes mountain region at Luca National Park is beautiful but you have to be careful of the height. You start your trip at sea level in Arica and within a few hours you are 4.600 meters high. Some people in the bus needed additional oxygen and were feeling unwell. People in good physical health should not fear anything when they are cautious. Remain calm and don't start running when getting out of your vehicle.

The pictures say it all. What is there to see? Well next to the traffic between Chile and Bolivia with many hairpin curves: mountains, deserts, volcanoes, ice, snow, lakes and incredible landscapes. You also see animals like many types of birds, pecuñas and Caviscaya rabbits. Overall an amazing day trip.

Take into account that the only road between Bolivia and the Pacific Ocean runs through Luca National Park. As a consequence there are many trucks passing by so please be careful when crossing the road. Some people focus so much on the exceptional landscape that they don't see the approaching traffic.

We hebben reeds vele Nationale Parken in de VS en fantastische natuur wereldwijd gezien. Luca National Park is enorm groot en we hadden geen verwachtingen. De natuur verraste ons, een plaats waarvan we nog nooit hadden gehoord, beroerde ons. Luca National Park is één van de indrukwekkendste natuurgebieden ter wereld en bijna niemand in Europa heeft hier weet van. Hoe is dit mogelijk?

Het Andes gebergte in deze regio is prachtig maar let op voor de hoogte. Je vangt je trip aan op zeeniveau in Arica en een paar uur later ben je op een hoogte van 4.600 meter. Sommige bezoekers voelen zich onwel of hebben extra zuurstof nodig. Mensen in goede conditie en gezondheid hoeven niets te vrezen maar opletten is steeds noodzakelijk. Blijf kalm en ga niet lopen als je uit de auto stapt.

De foto's vertellen je alles. Wat is er te zien? Wel naast het verkeer met de vele haarspeldbochten: bergen, woestijnen, vulkanen, ijs, sneeuw, meren en ongelooflijke landschappen. Je komt er ook dieren tegen zoals vele soorten vogels, pecuñas en Caviscaya konijnen. Een adembenemende dagexcursie. 

Hou er rekening mee dat de enige weg tussen Bolivia en de Stille Oceaan door Luca National loopt. Als gevolg rijden hier heel veel vrachtwagens dus wees zeer voorzichtig als je de straat oversteekt. Sommige mensen zijn zo aangetrokken door het landschap dat ze het aankomend verkeer niet zien.
