The Boat House or Grotto Pavilion in Poesjkin

We are still in the Catherina’s Palace gardens in Poesjkin and next to the lake there is a small blue and white building in the same style of the summer palace. It was the old boat house to pleasure the Royal Family in their trips on the lake. Now it is called the Grotto Pavilion because of the acoustic inside the building. People are waiting outside for a small concert of Russian singers. The sound was just amazing.

The Cameron Gallery and the gardens of the summer palace in Poesjkin

The gardens of Catharina’s summer palace are enormous with landscaped designs, several small buildings and a lake. The most important building next to the palace is the Cameron Gallery built by the Scottish architect Cameron during the 18th century. It was a bathhouse and a walking gallery for the royal family when it was raining so that they could still enjoy the gardens. I am happy that this time I could take a good reflection picture.

The palace of Catharina the Great in Poesjkin, St. Petersburg

We knew that this palace of the Russian Tsars was going to be one of the most impressive monuments of St. Petersburg and we were not disappointed. This summer palace was completed in 1717, destroyed during the Second World War and rebuilt for decades. In 2003 this Rococo building opened its door again for the public.

In this blog article, we are going to focus on the exterior which is so beautiful with its white, blue and golden colours. The palace was only open for groups and the lines were long. It seems that every tourist in St. Petersburg wants to visit this place and they are right. Already at the gate, you are impressed. The golden domes in the corner of the palace attracked our attention. In front of the main entrance a Russian band was playing traditional music.
