Modern buildings of Milan's world exhibition

Whenever we have the possibility in a major city, we try to publish pictures of modern buildings. In Milan we had plenty of opportunities thanks to the 2016 world exhibition architecture. We start at the Triennale Expogate where a modern metal construction meets historical heritage.

On the traffic vanes of Milan, commercial creativeness takes over with giant billboards, some with high quality prints, others with electronics. The era of rectangle shape towers seems to be from the past. All varieties of rounded elements and materials are used. It is an extreme mix of styles, we love the apartment towers with the vertical forests.

Iedere keer als we een grootstad bezoeken, trachten we foto's van moderne gebouwen te publiceren. Hier in Milaan hadden we genoeg mogelijkheden dankzij de Wereldtentoonstelling van 2016. We begonnen bij de Triennale Expogate waar een moderne metalen constructie historisch erfgoed ontmoet. 

Langs de verkeersaders van Milaan neemt de commerciële creativiteit de overhand met reuze reclameborden, sommigen in hoge kwaliteitsprint, andere elektronisch. Het tijdperk van de simpele rechthoekige torengebouwen lijkt passé. Alle mogelijke ronde vormen en materialen worden ingezet. Het is een extreme mix van stijlen. Onze favorieten waren de appartementstorens met geïntegreerde verticale bossen.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuelle II, Milan

This amazing shopping gallery in Milan was built according to the same architecture as a gallery in Napels. We have visited both buildings and in our mind they were identical. Looking back at our pictures from Napels, we have to adjust our view. The galleria Vittorio Emanuelle II in Milan is better restored than the Umberto I of Napels.

The decorations on the facades are excellent as also the glass roof. For us this is the most beautiful building of Milan, our number one landmark of the city. Just like the galleria, the shops are exclusive and expensive. It was raining and we saw a store specialising in umbrellas, some of them were costing more than 3.000 euro. We preferred to walk in the rain.

Deze ongelooflijke winkelgalerij in Milaan werd gebouwd volgens dezelfde architectuur als een galerij in Napels. Wij hebben beiden bezocht en in onze gedachten waren ze identiek. Toen we terug keken naar de foto's moesten we onze mening aanpassen. De Galleria Vittorio Emanuelle II in Milaan is mooier gerestoreerd en onderhouden als de Umberto I van Napels. 

De geveldecoraties zijn uitstekend net zoals het glazen sierdak. Voor ons is dit het mooiste gebouw van Milaan, onze nummer één qua bezienswaardigheid in de stad. Net als de galerij zijn de winkels ook exclusief en duur. Het regende en we vonden een zaak die paraplu's verkocht, sommigen tegen prijzen boven de 3.000 euro. We gaven de voorkeur aan de regen.

Milan the city of fashion and trend setting

We have to admit that we almost don't know anything about fashion and don't buy expensive clothing. It is however clear, even to us, that Milan portrays itself as fashion city in the world. The shop windows are professionally designed, display style and elegance. Milan sets the trend in the fashion industry.

We moeten toegeven dat we bijna niets weten van mode en dat we geen dure kledij kopen. Het is ons echter duidelijk, zelf voor ons, dat Milaan zich profileert als mode stad van de wereld. Alle etalages zijn professioneel ontworpen, stijlvol en elegant. Milaan zet de trend in de mode industrie.
