Clear water and a high activity level at the Rimini fisher's port

In such ports you occasionally see a few fisher boats but here in Rimini the fishing industry still seems popular. There were tens of vessels docked. The water was clear and you could see the fish swimming next to the dock. The close up pictures of fish nets and ropes are fascinating us and we should try these type of pictures more often.

The area is nice with a lighthouse, Ferris wheel, fountain, statues and a small fish restaurant. On one of the sailing boats a Golden Retriever was greeting us. On a sunny day this is an excellent area to have a walk.

In zulke vissershavens zie je meestal maar enkele boten maar hier in Rimini lijkt de visindustrie nog heel populair. Tientallen boten lagen aangemeerd. Het water is er helder en je kan de vis zo langs de kade zien zwemmen. We namen enkele close-up foto's van netten en touwen, dit fascineert ons en we moeten meer met de camera durven experimenteren. 

Het gebied is mooi met een vuurtoren, reuzenrad, fontein, standbeelden en een klein visrestaurant. Op één van de zeilbootjes groet ons een Golden Retriever. Op een zonnige dag is dit een uitstekende plaats voor een wandeling.

Contemporary Art in the Fabbrica Arte Museum, Rimini

This museum is located in the Palazzo del Podestà, a renovated building on Piazza Cavour. It focusses on contemporary and modern art ranging from sculptures, paintings and pieces playing with artificial light. On weekdays, the public is offered free entrance.

We like the large arched windows of the Palazzo and in our terminology the story telling paintings. These are series of small picture like paintings which show visitors the same subject in different moments of time. On the examples you can see dancers, a movie with a mule, a lady swimming and a man with wings on a strange object. Could we call this cartoon or movie art?

Dit museum is gevestigd in het Palazzo del Podestà, een gerenoveerd gebouw op Piazza Cavour. Het brengt moderne kunst variërend van standbeelden, schilderwerken en werken waarbij artificieel licht wordt gebruikt. Op weekdagen is het museum gratis te bezoeken. 

De hoge gewelfde ramen waren voor ons een blikvanger. We hielden ook wel van de schilderwerken die verhalen uitbeelden. Dit zijn reeksen van kleine schilderijen die soortgelijke onderwerpen op een tijdlijn weergeven. Op de voorbeelden zie je dansers, een film met ezel, een dame die zwemt en een man met vleugels op een vreemd object. Zouden de dit strip of filmkunst kunnen noemen?

The driest desert in the world, Candelabro valley desert, Chile

Most deserts are located just above sea level and some even below it. The Candelabro desert is not only exceptional by being the driest in the world, it is also located on an altitude of 2.500 meters. It gets its name from the chandelier shaped cactuses which grow about 8mm a year. It is the only place in the world where you can find these plants. The largest ones are about 200 years old and they blossom once every 4 years for one day. You have to be lucky to see this.

De meeste woestijnen liggen juist boven de zeespiegel en sommigen zelfs er onder. De Candelabro woestijn is niet alleen bijzonder daar het de droogste woestijn ter wereld is maar hij ligt ook op een hoogte van 2.500m. Zijn naam werd afgeleid uit de kandelaar vorm van de cactussen. Deze cactusbomen groeien ongeveer 8mm per jaar, de grootste zijn reeds 20 jaar oud. Eens iedere vier jaar bloeien deze met één enkele bloem voor slechts één dag. Je moet geluk hebben dit mee te mogen maken.
