Route de Compostella via Lier, The Saint Jacobs chapel

The Saint Jacobs Chapel is on the Main Square of Lier and in fact a small church. The chapel is very old and dates from 1383. The first thing we notice is the large painting with several weapon shields from Spanish governors. This was the church for the Spanish army during the 17th century. For this reason they also name this the Spanish church. This chapel is located on the route de Compostella, many pilgrims walk from church to church in 38 separate days. On this pilgrim trip they walk to Saint Jacob churches. Saint Jacob or Jakobus was one of the 3 most important apostles.
