Golden and marble statues in the Jade Buddha Temple, Shanghai

The Jade Buddha Temple in Shanghai was crowded. You could hardly walk around, so many people stood on the inner courtyard. Big pots with herbs were burning, a table with burning flower candles and people were praying with burning sticks above their head. A strange sight with a curtain of smoke, luckily there was no fire alarm equipment.

It was interesting to see people actively practicing their religion. Inside the temple there stood a row of golden Buddha’s facing the passing visitors, it was really special. Our favourite statue was of a marble reclining Buddha.

  3. Oh gosh, the people and the smoke! My favorites today are the big pink flower candles and all the red lanterns. So did you cough the rest of the day?

  7. Love the architechture of the temples. Other Buddhist temples that are interesting are the ones in Thailand. They're nice too.
