Our Lady of Itria in the Maltese hills of Bingemma

Driving from Mdina to our hotel on the Golden Bay in Malta, we were confronted with road works and were forced to take a dirt road into the hills. You can not imagine how poor the state of this road was. All paths climbing the hill of Bingemma were so narrow that we were praying not to encounter traffic from the other direction.

Once we reached the top, we saw a small chapel. It is the chapel of Our Lady of Itria. It stood there all alone looking down on the city of Mosta which we visited earlier in the morning. The views were spectacular and we didn't mind this adventurous detour.

  1. Spectacular view indeed! All roads lead somewhere, and sometimes the worst roads end up in the prettiest of places! Beautiful pictures!

  3. The little chapel is lovely, and your third and fourth pictures are truly breathtaking!!!! Sometimes getting lost or taking a detour can be great fun and you see wonderful things.

  4. Wonderful scenery.
I expect you had a hire car, here hire cars are not permitted on a gravel road...so your instance we would have to have turned around and gone back same way.
When travelling it's good to go off the beaten track as many things we do see that we didn't anticipate we would.
