Tour on the Celebrity Expedition

There she is, the Celebrity Expedition, a small cruise ship which residents permanently in the Galapagos. We are going to board and already see some animals: a pelican, a frigate and an iguana. We arrive with a high speed zodiac boat and see for the first time our small cabin in the bow of the ship. After fitting our wet suits and labeling them, we go on a deck for a meat and fish barbeque.

Daar is ze, de Celebrity Expedition, een klein cruise schip dat permanent op de Galapagos rondvaart. Voor we aan boort gingen zagen we nog enkele dieren: een pelikaan, een frigate en een leguaan. We komen er aan met een hoge snelheid zodiac en voor de eerste keer zien we onze kleine kajuit in de boeg van het schip. Na het passen en labelen van de wetsuits, worden we op het dek uitgenodigd voor een vlees en vis barbecue.

Bimi Beach club barbecue, Surin Beach, Phuket

Before you go to the Bimi Beach club, check on which days the barbecues take place it occasionally changes. When we were there it was on Wednesdays and Fridays. A DJ is playing excellent music in a non-disturbing way to have dinner. Outdoor on the beach there is a fire show.

The barbecue is excellent with a choice of white, red and rosé wine. Next to a cold buffet, sushi, sashimi and some warm dishes, you have the real central barbecue. For us this is the highlight of the evening. The cooks grill fresh tiger shrimps, squid, salmon and white fish. On the meat side you have a choice of beef, chicken, burgers and lam.

We really recommend the barbecue but you have to call to see on which evening it takes place and if the grill will be used. During low season they occasionally only have a salad bar. Bimi Beach Club is located on Surin Beach next to the famous Catch Beach Club. Both clubs are owned by the Twin Palms Hotel.

Vooraleer je naar de Bimi Beach Club gaat, dien je na te kijken op welke dagen de Barbecue plaats vindt, want dit verandert af en toe. Toen wij er waren ging dit door op woensdag en vrijdag. Een DJ speelt uitstekende muziek in een niet storende wijze voor het dineren. op het strand is er een vuurshow.

De barbecue is uitstekend met een keuze van witte, rode en rosé wijn. Naast het koud buffet, sushi, sashimi en enkele warme gerechten bieden ze een centrale barbecue aan. Voor ons het hoogtepunt van de avond. De chef grilt er verse tijgergarnalen, inktvis, zalm en witvis. De keuze van vlees is uitgebreid met rund, kip, hamburgers en lam. 

We raden je aan vooraf Bimi te bellen en na te vragen of de barbecue doorgaat. Tijdens het laagseizoen doet men soms enkel een koud buffet. Bimi Beach Club is gelegen naast de beroemde Catch Beach Club. Beide clubs zijn eigendom van het Twin Palms hotel.

Barbecue in low winter temperatures at Malagueta Beach, Malaga

It was late in the afternoon and rather cold at Malagueta Beach. A piece of art on the sand displays the name of the beach. The strong wind was however ideal for the kite surfers. We also didn't mind to walk on the promenade but water sports would be a bit exaggerated for our taste.

A bit further next to a few palm trees you find restaurant and bar Chiringuito Tropicana. Several people fight the cold and even sit outside with their jacket on. From a small fisher’s boat, they made a beach barbecue. With some effort, a staff member attempts to keep it warm, ready for the first customers who want to order grilled meat or fish. During the summer this must be a perfect spot to watch the sunset while relaxing with a bottle of white wine and seafood platter.

Het was laat in de namiddag en redelijk koud op het Malagueta strand. Een kunstwerk op het zand geeft de naam van de lokatie weer. De sterke wind is ideaal voor kite surfers. Wij genoten er zelfs van tijdens onze strandwandeling maar watersport te beoefenen was voor ons toch wel wat overdreven. 

Een beetje verder naast enkele palmbomen vind je restaurant en bar Chiringuito Tropicana. Verschillende mensen trotseerden de kou en zaten op het terras met hun jas aan. Een kleine visserssloep werd omgetoverd in een barbecue. Wat met moeite hield een medewerker het vuur aan, klaar om de eerste klanten hun vis of vlees te grillen. Tijdens de zomer moet dit een perfect etablissement zijn. Wij zien ons al genieten van de zonsondergang met een flesje witte wijn en zeevruchtenschotel.
