Celebrity Eclipse and Carnival Breeze side to side, St. Kitts

Walking between two cruise ships on the peer makes you realise how big these floating hotels are. Thousands of passengers are disembarking, ready to go on excursions or to explore the port.

The panorama views of the island are fantastic and low above the water, a pelican is fishing. With our fast camera, we were able to take some sharp in flight pictures.

To have a glimpse of the Carnival Breeze activity deck, we go to the top floor of our ship. Many passengers are still on the island, we see the sun deck, the basketball court and the waterpark with slides. Carnival is a family cruise line with lots of entertainment and parties. From above the helipad, the city looks very small. It is almost time to depart.

Door tussen twee zo'n cruise schepen te wandelen realiseer je pas hoe groot deze drijvende hotels wel zijn. Duizenden passagier gaan van boord, klaar voor hun excursies of het bezoeken van de haven.

De zichten van het eiland zijn fantastisch en laag boven het water is een pelikaan aan het vissen. Met onze snelle camera kunnen we enkele scherpe in de vlucht foto's nemen. 

Om de Carnival Breeze eens te kunnen zien, gaan we naar het bovenste dek van ons schip. Veel passagiers zijn nog niet aan boord. We zien het zonnedek, het basketbalveld en het waterpark met vele glijbanen. Carnival richt zich op een familie doelgroep met veel entertainment en feestjes. Van boven het helipad merk je pas hoe klein de stad lijkt. Het is bijna tijd om uit te varen.

Celebrity Eclipse cruise impressions and gala evenings

We would like share some pictures of the Celebrity Eclipse deck and lounge. Together with our parents, we enjoy wonderful days and evenings on sea. The ship offers great restaurants and service. One of the pictures shows Greta, Kristel’s mom, on the deck during sunset.

 It is time to dress up on a few Formal Evenings. We like this but unfortunately most cruise lines are reducing these evenings and some of them are even stopping it. Celebrity Cruises has replaced Formal Evenings by Evening Chic, many passengers decide to dress casual. The style of cruising gets lost which is a pity. We love it, so I am wearing my tuxedo and the ladies are in long dresses.

Graag delen we enkele foto’s van het Celebrity Cruise dek en lounge. Samen met onze ouders genieten we van leuke dagen en avonden op zee. Het schip heeft vele goede restaurants en top bediening. Op één van de foto’s zie je Greta, de moeder van Kristel, op het dek tijdens zonsondergang. 

Het is tijd om onze mooie kledij aan te trekken voor de formele avonden. Wij houden hiervan maar spijtig genoeg wordt dit minder en minder gedaan. Sommige rederijen stoppen hier gewoon mee. Celebrity Cruises heeft de formele avonden vervangen door Evening Chic, vele passagiers beslissen nu casual de avond door te brengen. Het cruisen verliest hiermee zijn stijl, wat heel spijtig is. Wij houden er echter van en ik draag mijn smoking en de dames zijn in het lang.

In the cruise port of St. John’s, Antigua

With clear weather and sun, you enjoy the Caribbean at its best. Here in Antigua, we are docked in port with the Celebrity Eclipse. Next to us, we see the new ship of the German cruise line "Mein Schiff 3". It also looks nice.

From the deck we see adventure and thrill seeker boats passing by like the Sea Escape. It can fly over the water at high speed and in calm shallow waters it is designed to look at the underwater world via a glass bottom.

The town of St. John’s is colorful with many shops and restaurants close to the quay. In the background you see the two towers of the cathedral which is now closed, due to the damage caused by a hurricane in 2008. We are preparing to go for a swim on one of the amazing beaches of the island.

Met open lucht en zon, kan je de Caraïbische eilanden op hun best beleven. Hier in Antigua liggen we aangemeerd met de Celebrity Eclipse. Naast ons ligt het nieuwe Duitse schip, "Mein Schiff 3". Het ziet er ook heel mooi uit.

Van op het dek zien we avonturen- en speedboten zoals de Sea Escape langsvaren. Deze kan over het water vliegen tegen hoge snelheid en voor in kalme ondiepe wateren heeft het een glazen bodem om de onderwaterwereld te aanschouwen. 

Het stadje van St. John's is kleurrijk met vele winkels en restaurants in de omgeving van de pier. Op de achtergrond kan je de twee torens zien van de nu gesloten kathedraal. Deze werd zwaar beschadigd door een orkaan in 2008. Wij maken ons klaar voor te gaan zwemmen op één van de fantastische stranden van Antigua.

Brunch in the Moonlight Sonata restaurant of Celebrity Eclipse

Celebrity Cruises is a Premium cruise line which is known for its excellent overall quality and very good cuisine. The Moonlight Sonata restaurant is the main dining room where you could have breakfast a la carte, sometimes lunch and every evening dinner if you decide not to go to a speciality restaurant.

When you enter you see an impressive glass tower at the end of the dining room, it is the wine tower. We can not imagine how many bottles they keep in this tower. On the ceiling hangs a fabulous modern chandelier, the dinning room is still empty. On the next picture the brunch has started.

All cooks manage there own stand, ranging from waffles, sushi, cold meats, fish and seafood, warm meals and desserts. The quality for such a big buffet is very good but it can be crowded. This is something which can not be avoided in the main dining room when you cruise with almost 3.000 passengers.

Celebrity Cruises is een Premium cruise maatschappij die gekend staat voor zijn algemene kwaliteit en zeer goede keuken. Het Moonlight Sonata is het grote restaurant waar je ’s morgens ontbijt a la carte kan nuttigen, soms een lunch en iedere avond het diner als je niet besluit naar één van de specialiteiten restaurant te gaan. 

Als je binnengaat word je onmiddellijk geconfronteerd met een enorme glazen toren achteraan in het restaurant, het is de wijntoren. We kunnen niet inschatten hoeveel flessen er in deze toren opgeslagen liggen. Aan het plafond hangt een enorme moderne luster, het restaurant is nog altijd leeg. Op de volgende foto is de brunch aangevangen. 

Iedere kok beheert zijn eigen stand, met wafels, sushi, koude vleessoorten, vis en zeevruchten, warme gerechten en desserts. Niet tegenstaande het een zeer groot buffet is, blijft de kwaliteit verbluffend, het kan echter wel druk worden in deze grote ruimte. Dit kan echter niet vermeden worden als je met bijna 3.000 passagiers op een cruise schip zit..
