The fabulous church of Los Martires, Malaga

This little church was not marked on our tourist information map, so we had low expectations. The street is so small that it is almost impossible to take a picture of the church exterior. However, above the entry portal there hangs a tile artwork with two female angels which sets the tone for the art inside the church. The colourful tiles displaying Our Lady Carmen and Oliva are so nice. We have seen such tile art before.

It didn't stop there, just look at the ship, the ceiling decorations and walls. This is a church, one out of a thousand. Each chapel contains an altar with a Madonna. The golden chapel displays a statue of Jesus. What a fabulous Church!

Deze kleine kerk stond niet op de toeristenkaart dus lagen de verwachtingen laag. De straat was zo smal dat je zelfs bijna geen foto van de kerkgevel kon maken. Boven de ingang hing een kunstwerk met twee vrouwelijke engelen in tegelwerk. Dit zet reeds de toon voor de kunst in de kerk met tegelcomposities van Onze Vrouw Carmen en Oliva, die prachtig zijn. Nog nooit hebben we zo'n tegel kunstwerken gezien. 

Daar hield het echter niet op, kijk maar naar het schip, de plafonds en muurdecoraties. Dit is een kerk, één uit duizend. Iedere zijkapel bevat een altaar met een Madonna behalve de gouden kapel die een beeld van Jezus bevat. Wat een prachtige kerk!

Puppets in the Santa Domingo church, Cartagena

This small church located in one of the shopping streets of Cartagena has a very strange facade. It is a unique place, we have never seen such a ceiling and it matches perfectly with the wooden altar wall. Typical for this region is the puppets of saints you find many examples of in this church. I remember that my parents had such a doll covered by a glass protection in their living room. Now I understand it finds its originates from Spain.

Deze kleine kerk is gelegen in een winkelstraat van Cartagena en heeft een rare voorgevel. Een uniek gebouw, we hadden nog nooit zo'n plafond met bijpassende houten muur achter het altaar gezien. Typisch voor deze regio zijn wel de poppen van heiligen waarvan er hier toch wel heel wat in de kerk staan. Ik herinner mij dat mijn ouders zo'n pop hadden, beschermd onder een glazen stulp, ze stond in de woonkamer. Nu begrijp ik dat dit zijn origine vind in Spanje.
