The gardens and mansions of Suzhou

Suzhou is known for its fabulous gardens. In the city you find more than 200 mansions and museums which show us traditional Chinese gardens of this region. Some of the gardens require tens of people on a full time basis to maintain them. Something that would be impossible in Europe with the more expensive labour cost.

Most gardens contain ponds and bridge; visitors can walk around freely, sit on a bench, and listen to the birds or the streaming water from an artificial waterfall. In the mansions we are blown away from the wooden furniture, real master pieces. In some of the rooms, elegant women play a Chinese instrument. Unfortunately we had a lot of rain in Suzhou.

  6. Having read your recent posts, I think Suzhou sounds like the sort of place I would enjoy visiting. The gardens in China are all so well cared for and such havens of tranquillity away from the hustle and bustle.
