This is one of the busiest squares of Barcelona and understandable. It connects many of the most popular shopping streets of this Spanish metropole. The most famous is certainly La Rambla.
Next to the amazing architecture of palaces around Plaza Catalunya you also find fountains, statues and art. An example is the Francecs Macià monument. The call for making money is clearly visible in Barcelona and nice architecture has to tolerate gigantic commercial billboards.
The square can easily be reached walking from La Rambla or by metro. A colorful display was the line-up rent bicycles in red and white. It can be crowded here and it attracts beggars, homeless people and travelers who have their belongings stolen and want money for the trip back home. Strange that we always find these unfortunate travelers here. Careful not to lose your money or belongings on this square.

lovely statuary and fountains!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful place and your photos are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteWe were there in Autumn 2014 on a rainy day.
Best regards, Synnöve
The bicycles and the lilies! They are my favorite today. i also love the pretty captures you made of the water in the fountains.
ReplyDeletegreat statues
ReplyDeleteEverything looks beautiful here, the scenery, the weather...
ReplyDeleteWhat you have shown in the square is lovely. Often when you mention some of the places you travel to, be careful with your belongings - this saddens me to think one just can't walk around and not have to think about belongings being stolen. That's life unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, what a fine collection of statues, each and everyone beautiful in the story it shares. Especially the last one. Amazing fun place that is. I like the bikes, we have those here too, although ours are a neon green mostly. Quite costly to borrow too, as having one's own bike so much cheaper!
ReplyDeleteI like the third and fourth pics :-)
ReplyDeletemooie details en standbeelden Filip. Fijne dag en groetjes, Dietmut
