The castle gardens and Nil lake in Stuttgart city centre

You would not expect such a big park in the middle of such a large city like Stuttgart. The park is divided into several parts starting at the Palace on Schlossplatz. The first green area is called Oberer Schlossgarten and stretches until the Central Station. Here you find many small wild flowers.

The construction works at the Central Station have a consequence for a small part of the park. It is however foreseen in the Stuttgart 21 high speed railway project that the park will be restored. Many people of the region are against the new developments of Stuttgart 21 and show this by actively protesting already for years.

Then you enter the Mittlerer Schlossgarten with a lake called Nil and an outdoor beer garden. In this part of the park you find statues and small fountains. A bit further you enter the Unterer Schlossgarten with a kid’s playground and long walking forest paths which end into the Rosensteinpark. A nice place to have a walking during warm days.

Je zou het niet verwachten, zo’n enorm park in het midden van een grootstad zoals Stuttgart. Het park is verdeeld in drie grote gebieden en begint bij het paleis aan de Schlossplatz. Het eerste groene hart wordt Oberer Schlossgarten genoemd en loopt tot aan het Centraal Station. Hier vind je vele wilde bloemen.

De bouwwerken aan het Centraal Station hebben een impact op een klein gedeelte van het park. Het is echter wel voorzien in het Stuttgart 21 hoge snelheidstrein project dat het park in ere wordt hersteld. Veel mensen uit de regio zijn tegen Stuttgart 21 en uiten dit door reeds jaren hevig te protesteren. 

Daarna wandel je verder in de Mittlerer Schlossgarten met een meer dat Nil noemt en een biergarten. In dit gedeelte staan verschillende standbeelden en kleine fonteinen. Een beetje verder ga je het Unterer Schlossgarten in waar er een kinderspeelplaats is en lange bospaden die uitlopen in het Rosenstein park. Een heel leuk gebied om eens te gaan wandelen op warme dagen.

Winter sceneries and ice skating on the Rottemeren, Zevenhuizen

We decided to interrupt our blog articles of the Caribbean and Florida for a week and take this opportunity to show you the beauty of winter in picturesque Holland and Belgium. Although it is freezing up to minus 15 degrees at night, the Dutch skating fever is high. A colleague from work and blog friend invited me to go skating on the Rottemeren lakes next to the windmills. Maybe you know Jana from her blog Jana around the world.

It was challenging to find back my skates that I haven't used in years. Maybe I look a bit silly in my red warm ski pants, which are twenty years old, but they still fit. Kristel is having a good laugh when she saw my coming from the stairs. Here we go to enjoy the black ice. Hope you like the pictures of the ice and windmills.

We hebben besloten onze artikelreeks over de Caraïben en Florida even een weekje stop te zetten en gebruiken deze tijd om u de schoonheid van de winter te tonen in pittoreske Holland en België. Alhoewel het tot minus 15 graden vriest in de nacht loopt de Nederlandse schaatskoorts fel op. Een collega van het werk en blogvriendin nodigt mij uit voor een schaatstocht op de Rottermeren langs de windmolens. Misschien ken je Jana van haar blog Jana around the world.

Het was een hele uitdaging mijn schaatsen die ik in jaren niet meer heb gebruikt terug te vinden. Misschien zie ik er wel wat raar uit in mijn fel rode warme skibroek die twintig jaar oud is, maar hij past toch nog. Kristel heeft eens goed gelachen toen ze mij van de trap zag afwandelen. Hier gaan we dan om van het zwarte natuurijs te genieten. Hopelijk vind je de foto’s van de molens en het ijs mooi..

The beauty of fall in Boston

Last time I was in Boston during the summer.This week it was different, colder, more grey. In fact the weather was still good for this time of the year, you could walk outisde without a jacket. When I saw the majestic buildings in combination with brown, yellow, and orange coloured threes, the feeling of fall hit me. All these colours in the park, around the lakes, in front of the skyscrapers, create an unreal picture of nature in a major city. The scuirels jump over piles of leaves, climb threes, and bravely approach you in their search for food. The beauty of fall in Boston. Enjoy the photos.

Mijn laatste bezoek aan Boston was gedurende zomer. Deze week was het anders, kouder, en grijzer. Niettegenstaande was het weer nog goed voor deze tijd van het jaar, je kon buiten wandelen zonder jas aan. Toen ik de skyline van Boston zag in combinatie met bruin, geel, en oranje gekleurde bomen, werd ik getroffen door het gevoel van de herfst. Al deze kleuren in het park, aan de meren, in de voorgrond van de wolkenkrabbers, creëren een onrealistisch sfeerbeeld van natuur in een grootstad. De eekhoorns springen over opeengestapelde bladeren, klimmen in bomen, en komen je moedig tegemoet in hun zoektocht naar eten. De schoonheid van de herfst in Boston. Geniet van de foto's.
