Local community of Castries, the capital of St. Lucia

Arriving at Castries, you see a small white pyramid of the “Alliance Française”, it is one of the unique modern buildings of the capital of St. Lucia. The island is known for its tropical rainforest and the beautiful coast line. The city of Castries however is not touristic at all. You hardly see visitors and it provided us the opportunity to mingle with the local population.

People are on the streets and there is a lot of activity on the market. It was partially clouded and the sun appeared occasionally, it felt however like we were in a sauna. The humidity must have been close to a 100%. People are very religious because the church was completely full for a funeral, there must have been a few thousand believers. On the Derek Walcott Square an enormous old tree was the main highlight; in the surrounding streets we saw some nice wooden houses and a public library.

  3. That white pyramid is quite something else! I love your shot with the big umbrellas on the street. And the big beautiful tree and the thin crooked one!

  5. Carnegie has a whole lot of libraries all around! A lovely quaint appearing town- your first photo is really very inviting, for a peaceful place to live and it seems the folks you've caught on film are enjoying themselves! Nice photos again!

  7. It looks an interesting place. Busy with people and it does look hot. I'm not sure where my nephew lives other than high on a hill with a spectacular view.

  10. Very nice to capture the local people doing their every day activities. The streets look very crowded for the middle of the day, but I assume the students are getting out of school.
