Cantonese Chinese temple in Kuala Lumpur

The Chan She Shu Yuen Temple has been built according to an example of a famous Cantonese temple in Guangzhou. Its green facade is special and when looking closer you see scenes out of the daily life a hundred years ago. The little statues are very detailed and integrated in the walls and roof.

It was the Chan Clan who funded the construction of the temple and art collection. Inside you find an exceptional altar. It has been a while since we were in Guangzhou and indeed this temple in Kuala Lumpur looks very similar.

  6. This was a 100 year old Chinese temple 'Chan She Shu Yuen', 'Chan She' means Mr Chan's family and 'Shu Yeun' means literally school. Opened in 1906 to serve immigrants with the surname Chan. I would believe (in my opinion) that the temple served as an ancestral praying facility for the Chan migrants as well as a place for the young to study. But it's modeled based on Cantonese style temple from Southern China. I remembered in the 70s I used to walk past this temple to school everyday for 6 years. In chinese festivities then like the chinese new year or lantern festival, it was busiest.
