Sri Mariamman Hindu Temple in Singapore

The most fascinating part of the Sri Mariamman Temple is the entrance tower or the Gopuram. The temple was built in 1827 but the tower was added about 100 years later. Our first picture is taking from the inner courtyard and shows the tower with Singapore’s modern buildings in the background. On the roof lay holy cows, all facing the entrance. Across the street you get a true impression of how detailed and colorful the little statues of the Gopuram are.

It is not only the temple gate which is colorful. All ceilings, walls, domes and the roof are decorated. Next to the Indian Gods, we recognize animals like the cow, elephant, lion and dragon. There were many people in the temple and we had to stay a while longer to protect us against rain showers.
