The Breakers and Rosecliff Mansions, Newport

On recommendation of a friend from Munich who lived in the area of Boston for a year, we went to Newport with the intension to visit some of the famous mansions. The most popular mansion is the Breakers. This is the 70-room mansion from the well known Van Der Bilt family who gained their wealth by building railroads and ships. For us this mansion was rather dark and with too many details. All mansions have a nice view on the Ocean. We were however more impressed about the Rosecliff mansion, this white terra cotta villa with its grand ballroom was fabulous. All these mansions were donated to the Preservation Society of Newport Country that tries to keep them in good shape and keeps them open to the public.

De meest populaire Mansion is "The Breakers".
