The warm appearance of the Ateneum Art Museum of Finland, Helsinki

Currently there is an exhibition of Helene Schjerfbeck at the Ateneum Museum in Helsinki, it still runs till 14 October 2012. We had never heard of this painter but it seems to be one of the most important Nordic artists. It was not allowed to take pictures of her work. We limited our visit to the introduction room, the hall and the impressive exterior of this magnificent late 19th century building. The façade is decorated many busts and columns in the shape of female statues carrying the upper floor. The colour combinations of grey, brown, red and white give the exterior a warm appearance. This is probably a big advantage during the long cold and dark winter period.

  6. The statues outdoors are lovely. They appear to be well-kept even outside. The interior architecture reminds me of the Stanford University's Cantor museum. http://avcr8teur.blogspot.com/2011/04/cantor-arts-center-lobby.html

  11. Beautiful architecture!

PS: You should visit the Kopenick castle/palace while you're in Berlin. It's beautiful and not so well-known. I think you'd really like it. :)
