Amsterdam is very divers and I would recommend all visitors to buy an “I am Amsterdam card” to visit this beautiful and interesting city. It gives you free access to a canal tour, public transport and many museums. For us this card is the best tool to explore this wonderful major city of Europe.
Amsterdam has so much to offer that anyone will find something they like. Some streets like the Damrak with its facades and shops are fabulous. There are possibilities to visit historical churches, see art in the streets, modern and old bridges across the canals, mansions, parks, museums, and a lot more. Don’t forget that Amsterdam has a reasonable size harbour with freight ships but also sailing boats and cruise passengers. The city lives with water and slowly sinks. You see it at some of the canal houses how they tilt to one side. Above all the Amsterdam ambiance and Dutch culture pulls tourists into a state of happiness.

I have not spent more than a few hours in Amsterdam, once just long enough to take a canal tour and wander a few streets. But that was long ago. I would love to return there one day. My daughter's husband has a grandmother living in Apeldoorn. On their latest visit to the Netherlands, they spent a lot of time in Amsterdam and loved the city.
