General Impressions of Helsinki, the capital of Finland

Like Stockholm, Helsinki is located at a major port and surrounded by water. You find this back in town via fresh fish products, restaurants on the water, sailing boats and many bridges. One of the bridges is called “Bridge of Love”. Couples hang a locker to the bridge to show their ethernal love, a similar tradition is maintianed in New York City at the Brooklyn Bridge. Helsinki is a green town with several parks and flower decorations. The local merchants and restaurants are brightning things up by bringing art and unique displays to the local population and visitors. On the market we saw “Belgialainen Vohveli”, which are Belgian Waffles, for us Belgian Nationals it was a funny expression.

  11. Very good post. Too bad about the dull weather. English is funny too. A Locker is where you put your clothes in a swimming pool; A Locket you hang around your neck with a keepsake in it: and a lock is to fasten up your love to a bridge? Really? How quaint!
