The Butterfly garden of Artis – The Zoo of Amsterdam

This is the second time we visit a butterfly garden. The first time was in Phuket, Thailand. You would expect that it would be better in such a tropical country but the Amsterdam butterfly garden had a lot more to offer. You could see butterflies everywhere and I had a great time trying to make sharp pictures. It was not always easy I have to admit. Did you know the most colourful butterflies are the most energetic? They never stopped flying and when they land on flowers, they are gone again before you aim your camera. Some butterflies were extremely beautiful with bleu wings but as soon as they landed, they closed their wings, so I could not take a picture of their bleu colours. It was like they were teasing me.

  1. Yes, I agree. Butterflies and birds are so difficult to capture, but you have done very well. Lovely photos.

Love butterflies. Don't see many of them around now, guess it's the cold weather.

  13. These are absolutely lovely, and I have to agree from my single time at a butterfly garden that they are not easy to photograph. You have done a very nice job though. When I went the air was very moist also and my lens kept fogging up. Every time the butterfly came was just in conjunction with a totally fogged up lens. Lovely job though Fillip!

  14. I have been to butterfly gardens several times, and you are right about the hard photography!!! One of them had a bowl of sugar water to dip your finger in, then he butterfly would stay on your hand and you could photograph it. Your pictures are MUCH better than mine came out!! It was also very hot and humid inside and not much light at all, like being in a jungle. Mine are not clear, bright, and sharp like yours are.

  15. Gorgeous shots, Filip! I had no idea that there is a butterfly garden in Amsterdam! The other day I had a large, colorful one on my balcony but I did not try to fetch my cam as I knew by the time I would be back it would be gone and so I just enjoyed watching it! Christa
