The Willet-Holthuysen mansion at the Herengracht in Amsterdam

Some exclusive houses at the most prestigious Amsterdam canals are enormous. You could not imagine how big they are. Some of the mansions are like three houses in a row. We visited the house of the Willet-Holthuysen family, who donated their home to the city of Amsterdam as a museum in the year 1895. The house itself dates from 1685. These days, a house like this would cost several million Euros.

The second picture shows the couple Willet-Holthuysen, I thought it was important to have an idea who lived in this house together with many servants. Not withholding that the mansion had more than ten rooms, the family didn’t have any children. The lady of the house loved pets and had a few dogs and cats. The servants lived on the ethic. The furniture is from the same century, we loved the art and the porcelain. The pictures say it all.

  1. Beautiful, beautiful. - Incredibly old house !
There must have been dozens of servants. I wouldn't have liked to be one of them.
I like to look at those pieces of furniture and houseware and etc., but it would be difficult to live in the middle of them.
    Have a nice next week.

  5. I love the garden, the clock, and that amazing staircase! The couple look rather severe, maybe not such a bad thing that they had no children.
