Travel article Nr. 4 related to the important historical places in the “Life of Jesus”.
As a young adult, Jesus arrived by boat in the Jewish town of Capernaum where he stayed for several years. A part of the synagogue is still standing and open for visitors. Here in Capernaum, Jesus performed several miracles by healing people. However, the most important aspect of this period was that he learned about life and formed his vision. After visiting the temple of David in Jerusalem, Jesus could not understand that priests were requesting money for their services. Here in this town he got to know many of his disciples Simon, John, Matthew, James and Andrew. Near the end, Jesus appointed Simon as his main follower. He referred to Simon as the rock, from now on your name is Peter. Peter is the main apostle, holding the key to heaven, the spreader of the religion. In the 7th century, the town of Capernaum was destructed during a war. On the exact place where the house of Peter stood, they built a new church.
