The Vystaviště fair buildings and the beautiful Lapidarium, Prague

In Belgium, we have the Heizel exposition centre in Brussels. In Prague, you have the Vystaviště fair buildings built in the late 19th century. The building is enormous and in the middle it has a metallic arch supported by two towers. Above the arch you see a clock tower.

Just in front of this exposition centre you find the Lapidarium, one of the most beautiful museum buildings of Europe. Unfortunately it needs a lot of refurbishing. The building holds sculptures from the 11th century. I am always sad when I see such beautiful buildings being turned into ruins. The paint is just falling from the walls. The Czech National Museum needs to take action soon before they lose this amazing heritage.

  2. I was thrilled with the architecture I saw in Prague but what a shame that they are neglecting it. Have you come across any of their Cubist architecture yet? It is worth seeking out as it is very individual and I think unique.

  4. All stunning photos! It must have been a very still day, with the flag on top of the building being completely unmoved! At least it appears to be a flag....

  14. From a distance, I can see its grandeur and not notice its need for repairs. I should like to climb up to the clock tower from the spiral staircase.
