Beautiful buildings, monuments and nightlife on Wenceslas Square, Prague

This Square is in fact a major road in the city centre of Prague, in the middle between the traffic lanes, you have pedestrian areas. The flowers and small gardens in the middle make the street less grey. The most impressive building is the Main building of the National Museum. This Neo-renaissance building looks so special but unfortunately the building was closed for renovation works. The Grand Hotel Europa looks very special and was used in the Mission Impossible movie. In front of the museum you see a statue of Wenceslas I, the Duke of Bohemia from 921 till 935. He was known as the Good King.

The Wenceslas Square is also known for its nightlife. In several Prague guides, I read that this square is not so safe when it is dark. So I decided to plan my visit during the daylight hours. Unfortunately I didn’t take into account that one restaurant I made reservations in was on this square. After diner, it was already dark, I was alone, but didn’t see any strange looking situations. Probably some people exaggerate; I didn’t have an unsafe feeling.

  3. Love these buildings! and the flowers add so much life to the square. Glad that you did not have any problems at night in the square. At least hope it was not as crowded as the Spanish Steps.... can imagine that is a great place for pickpockets. It is a very impressive view looking down the square at the National Museum building.

  12. Such a beautiful place with gardens in the middle of the road. Interesting restaurant from old street cars. I think it would have been fun to eat here.
