Excellent cuisine at Bistro Margaux, Sint-Martens-Bodegem

This One Michelin Star restaurant is located in Sint-Martens-Bodegem, a village near Brussels. When entering the old farmhouse we were already impressed with the wine collection artistically displayed behind a glass wall. We are sure this superb wine storage is climatized to perfection. The young Chef Thomas Locus learned his trade from some of the big names in the business Martin Berasatagui, Jean-Pierre Bruneau and the famous Dutch celebrity chef Sergio Herman (Oudsluis and The Jane).

Chef Thomas presents some amuses on pieces of wood in the shape of a mini trunk. We had amuses of herring, beef tartare, mussels, tomatoes and a pâté bonbon. We were served Sockeye salmon with avocado, redfish with vegetables, deer with King Crab, Wagyu beef and several delicious desserts. Wine pairing was of a good level, harmonized with each dish and building up the intensity course by course. Well done.

We highly recommend Bistro Margaux, it has an excellent cuisine at fair prices. You feel the modern touch of the Chef and he never stops to surprise his customers during the full length of their culinary adventure. Belgium continuous to astonish us with their excellent restaurants.

Dit één sterren Michelin restaurant is gelegen in Sint-Martens-Bodegem, een dorp in de omgeving van Brussel. Toen we de oude hoeve binnenkwamen, waren we onmiddellijk onder de indruk van de wijnpresentatie achter een grote glazen wand. We zijn er zeker van dat deze opslagplaats niet alleen mooi maar ook tot in de perfectie geklimatiseerd is. De jonge Chef Thomas Locus leerde zijn vak van enkele grootmeesters uit de keuken zoals Martin Berasatagui, Jean-Pierre Bruneau en de beroemde Nederlandse televisiester en wereldtop kok Sergio Herman (Oudsluis en The Jane).

Chef Thomas presenteert enkele van zijn amuses op een stukje hout in de vorm van een mini boomstam. We kregen amuses van haring, rundstartaar, mosseltjes, tomaat en een paté bonbon. Op het degustatiemenu stond Sockeye zalm met avocado, roodbaars met groentjes, hert met koningskrab, Wagyu entrecote en enkele heerlijke dessertjes. De wijnparing was van goede kwaliteit, in harmonie met elk gerecht en opbouwend. Heel goed gedaan. 

We kunnen Bistro Margaux ten stelligste aanbevelen, een uitstekende keuken met eerlijke prijzen. Je voelt de moderne toets van de Chef en men blijft de klanten tijdens het volledige culinaire avontuur verrassen. België verbaast ons voortdurend met zijn uitstekende restaurants.

Easter at the Belgian Chocolate House, Brussels

Before we take off in Brussels, we bought some chocolate in the Belgian Chocolate House. They have one of our favorite brands “Neuhaus. Most of the time we buy their pralines (bonbons) but this time we selected chocolate bars. Souvenir boxes show the main attractions of Brussels like the Queens Gallery, the Main Square, the City Hall, Manneken Pis and the Atonium. Neuhaus has also a large Easter Bunny and eggs.

There are also other famous brands for sale like Godiva chocolate and Jules Destrooper cookies. When we are at Brussels airport, we don’t skip this shop. Kristel is addicted to chocolate.

Vooraleer we opstijgen in Zaventem kochten we nog wat chocolade in het Belgian Chocolate House. Zij verkopen één van onze favoriete merken: “Neuhaus”. Meestal kopen we hun pralines maar deze keer kozen we voor de chocolade repen. Hun souvenirdozen tonen de bezienswaardigheden van de stad: de Koninginnengalerij, de Grote Markt, het stadhuis, Manneken Pis en het Atonium. Neuhaus verkoopt ook grote Paashazen en eitjes. 

Men verkoopt er ook het andere beroemde merk Godiva chocolade en Jules Destrooper koekjes. Als we op de luchthaven zijn gaan we deze winkel niet voorbij. Kristel is verslaafd aan chocolade.

Permanent car exhibition of Autoworld in Brussels

This museum in Brussel’s “Jubelpark” holds a permanent collection of vintage cars. We first saw the very old cars and some of them were a bit boring but we have to admit that there were many cool models to. All the big brands were present: Rolls Royce, Ford, Porsche, Audi, Mercedes, Jaguar, General Motors….

A part of the collection is dedicated to racing cars: very old tube cars, old but futuristic Le Mans race monsters, brand new top Porsche models, Formula One machines and so much more.

The most beautiful cars were the convertible vintage models from Mercedes and Audi. We also saw a classic carriage used by Royals for special festivities. An interesting museum for the whole family but a little bit more oriented to men and boys.

Dit museum in het Jubelpark te Brussel toont een permanente collectie Old Timer auto’s. Eerst zagen we enkele heel oude auto’s die toch wat saai waren maar we moeten toegeven dat er heel wat coole wagens stonden. Alle grote merken waren aanwezig: Rolls Royce, Ford, Porsche, Audi, Mercedes, Jaguar, General Motors…. 

Een gedeelte van de collectie is toegewijd aan race auto’s: zeer oude wagens in de vorm van een pijp, oude maar toch futuristische auto’s van Le Mans, gloednieuwe top modellen van Porsche, Formula 1 machines en zo veel meer. 

Voor ons waren de meest mooie auto’s, de Old Timer cabrio’s van Mercedes en Audi. We zagen ook een koets die werd gebuikt door het Koningshuis voor feesten. Een interessant museum voor de volledige familie maar toch een beetje meer gericht op mannen en jongens.

Victory arch in Parc du Cinquantenaire (Jubelpark), Brussels

We start our article with a picture of a flower field in front of the victory arch of this park in Brussels. A perfect scenery for the spring. The monuments and park were constructed in 1880 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the independence of Belgium. Next to the victory arch you see long curved galleries which are not open for the public. This is an important monument for the capital of Belgium and we particularly like the sculptures.

We vangen ons artikel aan met een foto van het bloemenveld voor de triomfboog van het Jubelpark. Een perfecte setting voor de lente. De monumenten en het park werden aangelegd in 1880 om de 50ste verjaardag van de Belgische onafhankelijkheid te vieren. Aan beide zijden van de overwinningsboog staan lange gebogen galerijen die echter niet toegankelijk zijn voor het publiek. Dit is een belangrijk monument voor de hoofdstad van België. In het bijzonder vinden wij de beeldhouwwerken heel mooi.
