Guards at the Amalienborg Palace square in Copenhagen

It was early morning when we arrived at the Amalienborg Palace, the residence of Queen Margrethe of Denmark. The Royal family has been living here since 1749 and some of the rooms are open to the public. At noon, the changing of the guards takes place on this square. When we were there, it was calm; almost no traffic and a few guards were walking up and down the palace walls. They looked strange with their tall fur hats on; it must be very warm in the summer. In each one of these wooden boxes, there is enough space to squeeze one soldier in, if he doesn’t have any overweight. Maybe that’s the reason why these soldiers all look so young.

  5. I like your pictures of the soldiers. When we were in Copenhagen I did not have a digital camera yet so my picture of the soldier is not very good. Digital cameras made a lot of difference, didn’t they?
