Holland loves football on the Rembrandtplein, Amsterdam

When we were on the Rembrandtplein last week, Holland was still a contester in the Euro 2012 Championship. Unfortunately they lost their three matches and had to go home. Here on the Rembrandtplein you can see that the Dutch people really support their team. All bars are decorated with footballs, balloons and orange flags.

We also liked the art on the square. An electricity cabin is painted with Rembrandt drawings. The statue of Rembrandt in the middle of the square overlooks a small fountain. Next to a Coffeeshop, artists try to sell their paintings. For those who don’t know this yet, a Coffeeshop in Amsterdam is a legal place where you can smoke marihuana or hashish. We haven’t done this and we never will. It is however a part of the culture of Amsterdam.

  17. Four years ago the European Champion Ship took place also in Berne. The fans from Holland are still in our memories. They are real fans and great supporters of their team. Most important they are all very peaceful. We had a fantastic time. Amsterdam is such a lovely city I really would like to go back! Christa

  18. How interesting that this is legal in Amsterdam. Would be hard not to get some of that just second hand just having your coffee. In the US where drug testing is done with jobs, just being around there would keep you from getting a job.

  19. I know the Europeans are soccer fanatics, but not so much in the States. I like that sketched artwork on the wall, but it It looks like not put in a place where it could be admired. It would be an strange sight to see people smoking those substances legally in public.
