Inside the Berliner Dom and the crypt containing Royal sarcophagi

When entering the church, you arrive in a kind of lobby with a staircase. This is something completely different than in our expectations. Here you buy your ticket. The church itself is one big circular space. We haven't seen such a shape for an entire church before.

How difficult must this have been to erect this enormous dome? The inside of the dome is decorated with gold and paintings in which yellow is a main colour. The side chapels are enormous and each one has its designated assignment like the altar, the organ and the coffins of the emperors. This cathedral is also known as the church of the emperors. In the cellar you find a big room with tens of sarcophagi. The underground area gives me the chills and is also the end of the visit.

  4. `Nothing like being "buried " in the basement. Such a strange custom. That is really an amazing looking church though and quite beautiful. I can only imagine how difficult that would be to construct. Beautiful spot to share

  9. Wow!!!! This does not even look quite like a church to me!! It looks a lot like a Venetian Opera House! One would expect The Phantom Of The Opera to jump down from above at any moment. Are there real bodies in there? Your pictures are absolutely amazing!!! I love your photo of the yellow domed ceiling with the skylight.
