Mixed feelings of restaurant Zarza in the Bondgenotenlaan Leuven

We have been twice to restaurant Zarza in Leuven. The restaurant is located in the Bondgenotenlaan, one of the main shopping streets of Leuven. The stylish mansion gives a warm feeling to its visitors, you enter the main dining room and are impressed. After our first visit we were very pleased, a good menu at reasonable prices. The wine pairing was good.

Our second visit was disappointing, they worked with mediocre products and the portion of beef tartar was too small. If the Chef blows you away with the taste and his creativity, we don’t mind small portions, we go for the experience. But if you get a small portion which doesn’t jump out, the card house collapses fast. Maybe they deserve a third chance but they are far away from Michelin Star quality and the prices are rather high.

  1. I like the presentation of the amuse; but what are the reddish pieces next to the cod?

  3. For sure you should go back again, and if it were me, I'd probably ask if they have various chefs. Or what could be the difference in the meals. I know it has happened here in America and at certain times the chef, and the kitchen manager made all the difference!

  5. i must say that most of these dishes are not pretty at all to me. The first one is dark and looks more like a failed centerpiece than something to eat..Too bad they are going downhill. Maybe they got a new chef or ran into hard times with money.

  7. Rather sad when you are expecting high quality and the chef disappoints you. I like how you said the "card house collapses fast". perfect way to express that!
