Popeye Village or Sweethaven Village, Mellieha

Most of us know Popeye, Olive and Captain Bluto from cartoons but the movie "Popeye" from 1980 was recorded in Malta at Anchor Bay. Instead of using a normal set, they constructed a small town against the cliffs. When you look at Popeye Village, the blue Post Office jumps out. The role of Popeye was played by the world famous actor Robin Williams.

The set is now used as a fun park. You can reach it by car or with bus 237 from Ghadira. Driving on the narrow roads between the rough hills of Mellieha is fascinating. We frequently stopped to take of pictures of the road, dessert and sea.

What can you do in Popeye Village? Off course visiting the film set, a museum, take a boat ride, play mini golf and during the summer they inflate water attractions in the bay. This is certainly a good day trip with kids in the summer season.

  1. The boat is adorable, I would love it for myself. I love the contrast between the blue of the sea and the blue of the sky. I suddenly feel that I must make spinach for dinner tonight.
