Flamingos at the salt water basin of Jan Kok, Curacao

A taxi driver brings us to the Jan Kok area to see flamingos. It is not known very well because she was not aware flamingos could be spotted here. A sign warns visitors not to feed or disturb the tropical birds.

We were very happy to visit the Jan Kok salt basin because there were so many flamingos. The most we ever saw in the wild. It was like they were posing to have their picture taking, like pink models on the catwalk. Two males were challenging each other to impress a female. Their long neck bending in all directions. They seem fragile but this is not the case.

In a solitary spot stood a white flamingo. This one is still young and gets his pink color as an adult depending on the food he consumes.

  3. Wonderful pictures! Of course they are exotic to us, because there are none here. They must have a healthy diet because they are so pink!
