Dancing next to the World Champion at the WDSF Rimini Open Senior I

Until this competition we only saw the reigning World Champions Stefano Bernardini & Stefania Martellini dance in the German Open. Alltough there is an enormous gap in dance quality, we stand next to them ready for the start of the competition.

Italy is an extremely good Ballroom Dancing country and this is clear from the participating couples. Also the World Champions Ten Dance, Christian & Elena Bono as well as the best newcomers of the year Csongor Balogh & Anita Szabo from Hungary and already number four in the world are present.

We knew beforehand that this competition result would be poor but also a good training. Participating in the strongest dance country in the world gives you a challenge. We danced on our level and were not intimidated. The adjudicators gave us 12 markings to go to the second round. The quickstep was our best dance. We end the competition in place 30 out of 33 couples.

On our return flight with Brussels Airlines we could take some pictures of the snow in the Alps. City trips in combination with dancing is always fun and adventurous.

Tot aan deze competitie hadden we enkel de regerende Wereldkampioenen Stefano Bernardini & Stefania Martellini zien dansen in de German Open. Alhoewel er een enorm verschil in kwaliteit is, staan we naast hen klaar voor de start van de wedstrijd.

Italië is een heel sterk land voor Ballroom dansen en dit is onmiddellijk duidelijk als je naar de deelnemende paren kijkt. De Wereldkampioenen Tien dans Christian & Elena Bono zijn ook van de partij en de beste nieuwkomer van het jaar, Csongor Balogh & Anita Szabo uit Hongarije, reeds het nummer vier op de wereldranking is er ook.

We wisten vooraf dat deze wedstrijd ging resulteren in een slechte plaatsing maar ook dat het een goede training ging zijn. Deelnemen in het sterkste dansland ter wereld is een uitdaging. We bereikten het gewenste niveau en werden niet geïntimideerd. De jury gaf ons tevens nog 12 crossen voor de kwalificatie naar de tweede ronde. De quickstep was onze beste dans. We eindigen de competitie in plaats 30 van 33 paren. 

Op de terugvlucht met Brussels Airlines konden we enkele foto's nemen van de sneeuw in de Alpen. City trips in combinatie met dansen is altijd leuk en avontuurlijk.

Pfarrkirche or the Saint Peter and Paul church in Oberammergau

On the information board of this church we can read that it originates from 1749 and was built up in a Bavarian-Schwabische Rococo style. The column in front of the church tower and the cemetery are impressive. The cross of the top of a chapel roof with the Alps in the background was worth taking a picture.

The interior holds several detailed altars and next to every two rows of seats there stood a kind of umbrella. Strange, we never saw this before. The organ, fresco’s, statues, chandeliers and ceiling all look amazing. You would never expect such a fantastic church in a small mountain village with only 5.000 inhabitants.

Op het informatiebord voor deze kerk lezen we dat deze werd ingewijd in 1749 en gebouwd in een Beiers-Schwabische Rococo stijl. De zuil voor de kerktoren en het kerkhof zijn indrukwekkend. Het kruis boven op een grafkapel met een Alpenberg op de achtergrond was zeker een foto waard. 

Binnen in de kerk vind je enkele groots versierde altaars en bij elke twee rijen zitplaatsen staat een gesloten parasol. Heel raar, want zoiets hebben we nog nooit gezien. Het orgel, de fresco's, standbeelden, kandelaars en het plafond zijn ongelooflijk. We hadden niet verwacht zo’n fantastische kerk te vinden in een klein Alpendorpje van ongeveer 5.000 inwoners.

Schwangau a small town in the mountains of Bavaria

We were on our way to probably the most famous castle in the world, the castle of Disneyworld but than for real. Its name is Neuschwanstein, the main residence of King Ludwig II of Bavaria and the example to build the Disney castle. We imagined it would be somewhere in the mountain forests but it was close to a village called Schwangau.

We had lunch there before we walked up to the castle. The village attracts so many visitors and most of them look for alternative transportation to make their way up to Neuschwanstein because cars are not allowed. People take the bus or the horse and carriage. We walked.

The town is beautiful with typical Bavarian houses, a castle, the house of hunters, the may tree, flowers and wall paintings. Higher up in the mountains you see the fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein. We recommend making the trip on foot; it takes as long by bus or horse. Good luck.

We waren onderweg naar waarschijnlijk het meest beroemde kasteel ter wereld, het kasteel van Disneyworld maar dan in het echt. Het wordt Neuschwanstein genoemd en was de hoofdresidentie van Koning Ludwig II van Beieren. Het stond model voor het kasteel van Disneyworld. We dachten dat het totaal verlaten in de bergbossen zou liggen maar het was dicht bij een dorpje Schwangau genoemd gelegen.

We nuttigden nog snel een lunch in het dorp vooraleer we naar het kasteel wandelden. Het dorp trekt vele toeristen aan en de meesten zoeken naar vervoer om Neuschwanstein te bezoeken want auto’s zijn er niet toegelaten. Mensen nemen de bus, paard en kar of gaan te voet net zoals wij. 

Het dorp is heel mooi met typisch Beierse huizen, een kasteel, het jagershuis, een meiboom, bloemen en muurschilderijen. Hogerop in de bergen zie je het sprookjeskasteel Neuschwanstein. We bevelen je aan de klim naar boven te voet te maken, het duurt even lang als met de bus of paard. Veel geluk.

Fantastic views on the Hochkönig Alp from the Wasthohe

The autumn has started but before we enter a grey and colder period, we are going to publish some pictures of the summer in Dienten. We took the Burgalmbahn (ski lift) and did a small hike of 15 minutes to the Wasthohe. Anyone can do this walk, you don’t need to be an athlete. From this point you have excellent views on the Hochkönig on Alp which is almost 3.000 metres high. Couldn’t you just lie down and relax in one of these flower fields?

De herfst is begonnen maar vooraleer we een grijze en koude periode ingaan, publiceren we nog enkele foto’s van de zomer in Dienten. We namen de Burgalmbahn (ski lift) en maakten een kleine wandeling van een kwartiertje naar de Wasthohe. Iedereen kan dit aan, je hoeft geen atleet te zijn. Van op de Wasthohe heb je een uitstekend zicht op de Hochkönig, een berg van bijna 3.000 meter hoog. Zou je niet graag hier niet graag gaan liggen en in een bloemenveld wegdromen.?

Cosy Hotel Mitterwirt with a fantastic wellness centre, Dienten

The Mitterwirt Hotel is built on the Alpine slopes. In the garden you have a small outdoor pool but when it is too cold you could decide to use the inside pool next to the wellness centre. The wellness centre is very good with two saunas, a steam bath and a relaxing room decorated like a barn.

At the entrance or the salon, the house pet Asmo is sleeping. He is a Golden Retriever just like our Tessa. The breakfast buffet is rich and around four o’clock the hotel offers its guests a small snack. For dinner you have a three course choice menu. The rooms are very spacious. We certainly can recommend this hotel if you like wellness and hiking.

Het Mitterwirt Hotel is gebouwd op een Alpen berghelling. In de tuin heb je een klein zwembad maar als het te koud is kan je binnen ook terrecht in het zwembad naast het wellness centrum. Het saunabereik is zeer goed met twee sauna’s, een stoombad en een ontspanningsruimte ingericht als een hooischuur. 

Aan de receptie of het salon slaapt meestal het hondje Asmo. Hij is een Golden Retriever net zoals onze Tessa. Het ontbijtbuffet is rijkelijk verzorgt en rond 4 uur biedt het hotel een kleine snack aan, aan de gasten. ’s Avonds voor het diner is er een keuze menu. De kamers zijn ruim. We kunnen dit hotel aanbevelen voor mensen die houden van wellness en wandelen..
