Neo gothic architecture of the Vienna City Hall

The City Hall is located on the Friedrich Schmidt-Platz, named after the architect who built it in the 19th century. All buildings in this area of the center are amazing. The exterior of the building has many high towers and arches.

We are dancing a competition inside the historical town hall and the great ballroom is just like a fairy tale. Have a look at the ceiling and the chandeliers. Getting to the third floor with your suitcases is a challenge, there is no elevator. We added a video link of our dance video below.

Het stadhuis is gelegen op de Friedrich Schmidt-Platz, genaamd naar de architect die het bouwde in de 19de eeuw. Alle gebouwen in het centrum zijn ongelooflijk. De buitenzijde bevat verschillende hoge torens en sierbogen. 

 In dit historisch stadhuis dansen we een wedstrijd en de grote ballroom lijkt net uit een sprookje te komen. Kijk maar eens naar de planfonds en de sierlusters. Op het derde verdiep geraken met je koffers is echter een uitdaging daar er geen liften zijn. Hieronder voegen we een video link toe van onze wedstrijd.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall or MUD Panggung Bandaraya

The City Hall was constructed in 1904 and has found a new destination as musical theatre. The Panggung Bandaraya or MUD show tells visitors the story of Kuala Lumpur. Three young men escape from the tin mines and seek their fortune in the big town.

From a distance the architecture and façade of the City Hall look amazing. Closer by you see that renovations are urgently needed. We hope this will happen soon so that this heritage is not lost. The entrance hall looks very good with a golden dome ceiling and stained glass windows. The ceiling in the theatre is unique in its design and colors.

Het stadhuis werd gebouwd in 1904 en heeft nu een nieuwe bestemming gekregen als muziekhal. De Panggung Bandaraya of MUD musical verteld bezoekers het verhaal van Kuala Lumpur. Drie jonge mannen ontsnappen uit de tinmijnen en zoeken hun fortuin in de grote stad. 

Van op afstand lijken de architectuur en gevel van het stadhuis ongelooflijk. Iets dichter bij zie je dat renovaties dringend en noodzakelijk zijn. Laten we hopen dat er snel actie wordt ondernomen dat dit erfgoed niet verloren gaat. De ingang ziet er heel goed uit met een gouden koepel en sierglazen ramen. Het plafond in het theater is uniek in zijn ontwerp en kleur.

A brown Neptunus fountain on the Neumarkt, Wuppertal

The Neumarkt is the connection point for several shopping streets. An amazing building with two clock towers, a fabulous entrance and several statues dominates one side of the square. It is the only building of significance on the Neumarkt and the current City Hall. The statues however refer more to a court of justice.

Neptunus is standing high on its fountain overlooking the market. Below him you see the sea horses and other creatures. Sea men and women drink large volumes of source water. It must be the source of eternal life because all people look so fit and muscular.

De Neumarkt is het verbindingspunt tussen verschillende winkelstraten. Een prachtig gebouw met kloktoren, mooie poort en enkele standbeelden, domineert een volledige kant van het plein. Het is echter het enige architecturaal belangrijk gebouw op de Neumarkt en is tevens het huidige stadhuis. De standbeelden refereren echter meer naar een gerechtshof. 

Neptunus staat hoog boven op zijn fontein neer te kijken op de markt. Onder hem staan zeepaarden en andere wezens. Zeemannen en vrouwen drinken grote hoeveelheden bronwater. Dit moet wel de bron van het eeuwige leven zijn daar iedereen er zo fit en gespierd uit ziet.

The City Hall of Cartagena and paintings from Muher

The facade of the city hall in Cartagena is unbelievable. On the corner with a tower dome is the tourist office located. Because of its beauty we thought that this was the main entrance but this was even bigger with three enormous entry portals.

Once you enter, you face a majestic staircase leading to the offices. We were greeted by a friendly gentleman who informed us of a guided tour for 1 euro a person. Tickets were for sale via a vending machine. As a visitor to Cartagena you should not skip the city hall. The wooden ceiling contains brown and blue decorations. The roof above the staircase is covered by stained glass containing the coat of arms of Cartagena. We also visited the city council hall which was a bit dark.

On the ground floor there was an exhibition of Muher, presenting paintings and thematic art around bull fighting. All paintings are built up in the same colours: yellow, red and orange. We don’t like bull fighting and would never go to such an event. The works of Muher are however interesting. Muher is not a person but a trade name for two artists Francisca Munoz and Manuel Herrera.

De gevel van het stadhuis in Cartagena is ongelooflijk. Op de hoek van het gebouw staat een toren met koepel en hierin is het kantoor voor toerisme in gevestigd. Omwille van zijn schoonheid dachten we dat dit de hoofdingang was maar deze was nog groter met zijn drie enorme inkomportalen.

Eens binnen, sta je recht tegenover de koninklijke trappenhal die naar de kantoren leidt. We werden begroet door een vriendelijke man die ons informeerde over een begeleide rondleiding in het gebouw. Kaarten werden verkocht aan 1 euro via een automaat. Als bezoeker aan Cartagena mag je het stadhuis zeker niet overslaan. Het houten plafond is gedecoreerd met blauw bruine kleuren. Boven het trappenhuis is een opening afgedekt door brandglas beschilderd met het wapenschild van de stad. De zaal waar de gemeenteraad in zetelt is wat donker. 

Op het gelijkvloers was er een tentoonstelling van Muher rond het thema stierengevechten. Alle schilderwerken vertoonden gelijkaardige kleuren: rood, geel en oranje. We zouden echter nooit naar een stierengevecht gaan kijken maar deze werken zijn wel mooi. Muher is geen persoon maar een handelsnaam voor twee artiesten Francisca Munoz en Manuel Herrera.
