The most important gate of Amersfoort, the “Koppelpoort”

This combination of wall, castle, and water gate is 500 years old and has the same functionality as the Monnikendam, it is a defence line for the city and regulates the water in the city canals. The bridge could be manned on the first floor and the towers with soldiers carrying bows and arrows. Look at the red white blinds they added to protect the glass windows and doors. Alongside the river banks trees were planted which blend in with the green character of Amersfoort. Above the pedestrian walkway hangs a shield with two lions holding a crown.

Dit 500 jaar oude bouwwerk die een muur, kasteel en waterpoort combineert heeft dezelfde functie als de Monnikendam, het is een verdedigingslinie voor de stad en regelde het waterniveau in de grachten van de binnenstad. De brug alsook de torens werden bemand door boogschutters. Ter protectie van de deuren en vensters werden rood witte panelen aangebracht. Langs de oevers van de hoofdgracht staan rijen bomen die goed passen bij het groene karakter van Amersfoort. Boven het wandelpad hangt er een schild waarop leeuwen een kroon vasthouden..
