Visiting Dubai attractions with the metro

The Dubai Metro has two lines. The Red Line from Jebel Ali to Rashidiya and the Green Line covering the area of Bur Dubai and Deira. The metro lines are always on time, is modern, clean and safe. Some stations are so beautiful with shiny marble, paintings, photos and chandeliers. You recognise the stations by an arched tunnel or a small brown tower with elevators. Many people make use of the Dubai Metro system and it is cheap. A card representation an electronic wallet is used to pay the fares.

De Dubai Metro heeft twee lijnen. De Rode Lijn van Jebel Ali naar Rashidiya en de Groene Lijn in de wijk van Bur Dubai en Deira. De metro rijdt altijd op tijd, is modern, proper en veilig. Sommige stations zijn zo mooi met hun marmer, schilderijen, foto’s en lusters. Je herkent de stations aan de boogingangen of de kleine torens met liften. Veel mensen maken gebruik van de Dubai Metro daar het zo efficiënt en goedkoop is. Je dient een kaart kopen als elektronische portemonee om je ritten te betalen.

How to get to Ferrari World by public transport

When we were at home, we tried to find out how to get to Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi from Dubai. Most tourists go to Dubai and some of them would like to go to this amusement park but don’t want to rent a car or pay a high cost for taxi. If you book an excursion with a tour operator, you have to adjust to their time schedule. This article provides you all the information you need to get there on your own for only 10 euro a person, return price. This is very cheap because the travel distance is about 200km one way. Be careful, Ferrari World is not open on Mondays.

You have to start at the Al Ghubaiba green line metro station in Dubai. Here you find all the main Dubai bus lines. The first bus departs around 6:30. Every 20 minutes until midnight, there is a bus to Abu Dhabi. The same is true in the other direction. It is indicated on the bus E1-Abu Dhabi. When you arrive at the Abu Dhabi Main Bus Station (the last stop), you cross the road. There you have 7 busses an hour to Yas Island. After that it is a 2,5km walk. If you don’t want to walk, take bus 190 in Abu Dhabi, this one drops you in front of the Ferrari World entrance. There is however only one bus an hour for the 190, except in the evening when you come back, then it is each half hour.

If you decide to do the walk, bring water, it can be very hot during from May till October. The walk is in fact special because they built a kilometres long pedestrian path in the middle of the dessert with flowers and trees on each side. These pave walks you find everywhere around Yas Island, it must be very expensive to maintain this in this heat.

Toen we nog thuis waren, hebben we geprobeerd uit te zoeken hoe we naar Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi konden gaan vertrekkende uit Dubai. De meeste toeristen zitten in Dubai en sommige zouden wel graag dit pretpark bezoeken. Wij hielden er niet van een auto te huren of veel te betalen voor een taxi. Als je een excursie boekt met een lokale tour operator ben je gebonden aan zijn tijdschema. Dit artikel geeft je alle informatie om in Ferrari World te komen met het openbaar vervoer, voor slechts 10 euro per persoon, heen en terug. Dit is zeer goedkoop daar de afstand toch 200 km is, enkele rit. Opgelet, Ferrari World is niet open op maandag.

Je begint aan het Al Ghubaiba metro station in Dubai, de groene lijn. Hier vind je het hoofd busstation van Dubai. De eerste bus naar Abu Dhabi vertrekt ongeveer rond 6:30. Iedere 20 minuten is er een bus tot middernacht. Hetzelfde tijdschema wordt aangehouden voor de terugweg. Op de display van de bus staat E1-Abu Dhabi, je kan je niet vergissen. Wanneer je aankomt in het hoofdstation van Abu Dhabi, de laatste halte, steek je de straat over. Daar heb je 7 bussen per uur naar Yas Island. Daarna is het nog 2,5 km wandeling, je ziet Ferrari World liggen. Indien je niet wil wandelen moet je in Abu Dhabi bus 190 nemen, deze dropt je voor de ingang van Ferrari World. Gedurende de dag rijdt de 190 ieder uur en ’s avonds voor de terugweg ieder half uur.

Als je beslist te wandelen, breng dan water mee want het kan zeer heet zijn van mei tot oktober. De wandeling is speciaal, het km lange wandelpad met bomen en bloemen ligt in zo’n warm gebied dat dit ongelooflijk duur moet zijn in onderhoud..

How to travel to the cruise port of Civitavecchia, Rome

If you are going on a cruise and you embark from Civitavecchia (Rome, Italy), you need to travel from the airport to the port. This is not always easy because of the language restrictions. Our Italian is close to zero and we succeeded, so you can also achieve this. Arriving from Frankfurt at Fiumicino airport, we saw several stands offering transfers to the town of Civitavecchia and the cruise port at price between 130 and 110 euro per person. The distance is approximately 80 km. We thought this was expensive and took the train from the airport to Rome Trastevere, there you change trains on platform 2 in the direction of Pisa or Civitavecchia. The total journey takes about 1,5 hours and costs you 12 euro per person. When you arrive in Civitavecchia you have to walk about 200 metres to the fortress and there you get a free of charge shuttle bus to your cruise ship. With a party of two people you save around 200 euro for the trip. We hope this is a good tip. When we arrived at the port, three cruise ships were docked: the Costa Romantica, the MSC Fantasia and the Mariner of the Seas of Royal Caribbean. Our ship, the Celebrity Silhouette only arrived the next day, so we had time to visit the city.

Als je op cruise gaat en je vertrekt van Civitavecchia (Rome, Italië), dan moet je van de luchthaven naar de cruise haven reizen. Dit is niet altijd gemakkelijk vanwege de taal. Ons Italiaans is bijna onbestaand maar we zijn er geraakt, dus jullie kunnen het ook. We kwamen aan Fiumicino luchthaven na een vlucht uit Frankfurt en zagen verschillende kantoren die transfers aanboden naar Civitavecchia en de cruise terminals. De prijs was tussen 130 en 110 euro per persoon voor een afstand van ongeveer 80 km. We vonden dit duur en namen de train van de luchthaven naar Rome Trastevere, daar moet je overstappen op perron 2 richting Pisa of Civitavecchia. De totale reistijd is 1,5 uur en kost maar 12 euro per persoon. Als je aankomt moet je maar 200 meter wandelen naar het fort en daar zijn gratis bussen naar de cruise terminals. Per koppel spaar je ongeveer 200 euro uit voor de reis. We hopen dat jullie iets aan deze tip hebben. Toen we aankwamen, waren er 3 cruise schepen aangemeerd: de Costa Romantica, de MSC Fantasia en de Mariner of the Seas van Royal Caribbean. Ons schip, de Celebrity Silhouette kwam pas de volgende dag aan, zodat we genoeg tijd hadden de stad de bezoeken..
