Late gothic Saint Hermes church in Ronse

It is a beautiful strong looking church in late gothic architecture. It was built in the 15th century. The arched ceiling is very high, the altar and stained glass art work is fabulous. The 79 metre high tower contains a carillon with 49 bells. On a table there are burning candles of the holy Rita. We were expecting it was a local Belgian saint but nothing is less true, Rita was from Italy.

Het is een mooie laat gotische kerk met een robuuste uitstraling. Ze werd gebouwd in de 15de eeuw. Het gewelfde plafond is enorm hoog, het altaar en brandglans zijn echte kunstwerken. De 79 meter hoge toren bevat een beiaard bestaande uit 49 klokken. Op een tafeltje staan brandende kaarsen ter ere van de heilige Rita. We dachten dat dit een Belgische heilige was maar niets is minder waar, ze was Italiaanse.
