Shopping in Sokakta Hayat Var, Istanbul

In the district of Ortakoy near the Bosphorus, you find this vibrant Sokakta Hayat Var market. The entrance is marked by a wooden arch with little houses. One sells here Turkish lamps, cushions, plates, ceramic, hats, clothing, shoes and predominantly cheap jewellery. Hungry people should not be worried you can buy food at every corner of the street.

On the squares and near the river, the restaurant owners try to attract customers. Many houses and buildings have style. Under the Sultan Mehmet II bridge passes a huge tanker. It is hard to imagine that this impressive vessel is only manned by a small crew of a few sailors.

In de wijk Ortakoy aan de Bosporus vind je een bruisende markt Sokakta Hayat Var genoemd. De toegang wordt gemarkeerd door een houten boog met kleine huisjes. Men verkoopt er Turkse lampen, kussens, borden, ceramiek, hoeden, schoenen, kledij maar voornamelijk goedkope juwelen. Hongerige mensen moeten zich hier geen zorgen maken, eten wordt op elke hoek van de straat verkocht. 

Op de pleintjes en langs de rivier trachten restaurantuitbaters klanten aan te trekken. Vele huizen en gebouwen stralen klasse uit. Onder de Sultan Mehmet II brug vaart een reuzetanker. Het is moeilijk te geloven dat dit enorme schip door een bemanning van slechts enkele zeelui wordt bestuurd.
