Largo da Matriz, Ponta Delgada

This is the main city square of Ponta Delgada on the Azores. Here you find the most important church as also the remains of the gates to the city. Buildings are well maintained and on the square you find many flower beds.

With all mobile communications, a public telephone booth is no longer required. It received a new destination as small public library. This is a very creative idea.

Dit is het hoofdplein van Ponta Delgada op de Azoren. Hier vind je de belangrijkste kerk en de overblijfselen van een stadspoort. Gebouwen zijn goed onderhouden en op het plein staan verschillende bloemenperken. 

Met de hedendaagse mobiele telefonie zijn publieke telefooncellen niet meer in gebruik. Hier kreeg zo’n telefooncel een nieuwe bestemming als mini bibliotheek. Een heel creatief idee.

Plaza de San Juan de Dios, Cadiz

This is one of the most beautiful squares of Cadiz where the city hall is located. It is close to the port, has several restaurants with terraces and is decorated with flowers. The towers of the city hall and church are setting the view, high above the palm trees. It is an excellent place to visit when you arrive with a cruise ship.

Dit is één van de mooiste pleinen van Cadiz waar het stadhuis is gevestigd. Het is dicht bij de haven, heeft vele restaurants met terrassen en in overvloed gedecoreerd met bloemen. De torens van het stadhuis en de kerk bepalen het uitzicht hoog boven de palmbomen. Dit is een uitstekende plaats voor een bezoekje als je aanmeert met een cruise schip.

Place de la Bourse, Bordeaux

It is sunny weather in Bordeaux and Kristel is ready to pose for a picture at one of the fountains on Place de la Bourse. We are on our way to the Saint Emilion for a bicycle tour alongside the vineyards.

Let us however go back to this place early in the morning. It is quiet, people are still asleep or at home. The Place de la Bourse is located at the banks of the Garonne in the city center of Bordeaux. The buildings are from the 18th century but no longer hold the stock market. The name is historical.

This square with walking promenades and water reflection elements is a fantastic place to jog or spend your time for an evening walk.

Het is zonnig weer in Bordeaux en Kristel is bereidt te poseren voor een foto aan één van de fonteinen op Place de la Bourse. We zijn op weg naar de Saint-Emilion voor een fietstocht langs de wijngaarden.

Laat ons echter terug komen op dit plein, zo vroeg in de ochtend. Het is rustig, iedereen slaapt nog of is thuis. Place de la Bourse is gelegen aan de oever van de Garonne in het stadscentrum van Bordeaux. De gebouwen zijn van de 18de eeuw maar hier wordt de beurs niet meer gehouden. De naam is historisch erfgoed. 

Het plein met zijn wandelpromenades en water reflectie elementen is een fantastische plaats om te joggen of voor een avondwandeling.

Modern tower architecture at Plaza Colon, Madrid

There are a few interesting statues and monuments on the Plaza Colon square in the center of Madrid. In the design of the square we like the water ponds which reflect glimpses of buildings around it. Sometimes people and birds make the water reflection even more special.

Located on the corner of Plaza Colon is the National Library. A very nice building worth a visit. They also hold temporary exhibitions which are free to the public. The most impressive building at Plaza Colon was however the modern brown glass tower with green roof. An amazing office building which makes a statement.

Er zijn enkele interessante standbeelden en monumenten te bezichtigen op Plaza Colon in het centrum van Madrid. In het ontwerp van het plein, houden we van de waterelementen die voorbijgangers glimpen geven van gebouwen rondom. De reflecties van vogels en mensen maken het nog specialer. 

Op de hoek van het plein vind je de Nationale Bibliotheek. Een heel mooi gebouw dat zeker een bezoekje waard is. Tijdelijke tentoonstellingen zijn er soms gratis te bezoeken. Het meest indrukwekkende gebouw op Plaza Colon is voor ons echter het bruine glazen kantorencomplex met groen dak. Het laat een sterke indruk na.
