The palace of Catharina the Great in Poesjkin, St. Petersburg

We knew that this palace of the Russian Tsars was going to be one of the most impressive monuments of St. Petersburg and we were not disappointed. This summer palace was completed in 1717, destroyed during the Second World War and rebuilt for decades. In 2003 this Rococo building opened its door again for the public.

In this blog article, we are going to focus on the exterior which is so beautiful with its white, blue and golden colours. The palace was only open for groups and the lines were long. It seems that every tourist in St. Petersburg wants to visit this place and they are right. Already at the gate, you are impressed. The golden domes in the corner of the palace attracked our attention. In front of the main entrance a Russian band was playing traditional music.

  14. Beautiful photos! We were on a Baltic cruise 3 years ago that stayed overnight in St. Petersburg. One of my best memories from the cruise is my younger daughter (6 years old at the time) dancing to the music being played outside Catherine's Palace.
