Welcome to Puerto Varas or little Germany, Chile

When you look at Puerto Varas with the Llanquihue Lake, you think you are in Bayern, Germany. There they also have beautiful lakes with traditional wooden houses. The only thing they do not have in Germany is the Osorno Volcano but on this day it didn't make a difference because it was not visible due to the weather conditions.

Already two centuries this city and the surrounding lake area is populated with German speaking immigrants. While walking in town, we requested some information to locals in English, since we don't master Spanish. They did not understand us but German was no problem. Next to the German architecture and language, Puerto Varas also keeps the German food and beer tradition alive.

  2. Love the boat that is red on the bottom with the horse stature in the background! In picture 5, it looks so weird; the building looks like only a front with no sides.
