Gold art in the Gold Museum of Cartagena

The Gold Museum is one of the most important museums of the city. It provides you an insight of the large volumes of gold available in Colombia and Peru. This was what the Spanish invaders were looking for. The museum has a free entrance policy.

Most art and gold figures are displaying features covered in their culture, animals and religion. Small animal characters are in our opinion the most interesting. More traditional gold shape products like rings and necklaces are also available. The light displays in the exhibition are well set up. We were surprised that the gold didn't shine so much as modern jewelry.

  1. There is a LOT of detail, with the little animals especially! It is amazing that they managed to turn out such great pieces with no modern tools!

  3. I don't know a lot about gold, but maybe polishing it brings out the shine? Interesting museum.

  4. It amazes me what people created before our very modern world today. I am especially interested in the detail and thing about all the hand tools one would possess to make such beautiful pieces. I love to roam and look at lovely pieces like this. Wonderful Museum.
