The gold cathedral of Quito

The cathedral is the most important church of the capital. We received a guided tour but could not take pictures inside. Security guards were strictly enforcing this rule. The exterior of the church is very dark and polluted because of traffic passing by.

Why do we report on this monument? Because of its gold. The church interior is fully covered with gold. It is probably the only church in the world that contains this volume. Nobody can tell how many tons are present but enough to pay of the full debt of the country. This richness of the church is in big contradiction with the poverty in Quito, still people remain faithful to the church and keep on donating.

Gold art in the Gold Museum of Cartagena

The Gold Museum is one of the most important museums of the city. It provides you an insight of the large volumes of gold available in Colombia and Peru. This was what the Spanish invaders were looking for. The museum has a free entrance policy.

Most art and gold figures are displaying features covered in their culture, animals and religion. Small animal characters are in our opinion the most interesting. More traditional gold shape products like rings and necklaces are also available. The light displays in the exhibition are well set up. We were surprised that the gold didn't shine so much as modern jewelry.

20 years Bel20 in Brussels and the stock markets fall, is gold the way out?

We visited the stock exchange in Brussels because we like historic buildings. As you can see on the pictures it was really worth it. The building was designed by architect Léon-Pierre Suys and completed in 1873. It is the home of the BEL20, the 20 most important shares of the Belgian Euro next. This year the BEL20 celebrated its 20 years anniversary. It was not a happy birthday party because the BEL20 dropped below the value it had in 2002. This means that investors who bought a mix of BEL20 shares in 2002 have now after 10 years not gained one euro on their money. Maybe gold is a solution. Gold brokers can be found next to the Brussels Stock exchange. Good luck in deciding what the best investment is for you.
