First Cathedral and Main Square, Quito

The first cathedral of Quito is located at the Main Square. Its white tower is covered with decorations and stands side by side with a green yellow dome. A great church in front of the victory column of the city. At the end of the street you see the two towers of the new cathedral.

It is hot but locals are working hard: polishing shoes, selling ice cream, selling scarfs or guarding the parliament. We took some nice pictures and gave some money to the lady with the baby on her back. Our own security guard was vigilant for pickpockets on this busy square.

De eerste kathedraal van Quito is gelegen op het hoofdplein. Zijn witte toren is rijkelijk gedecoreerd en staat zij aan zij met een groen gele koepel. Een mooie kerk tegenover de overwinningszuil van de stad. Aan het einde van de hoofdweg zie je de twee kloktorens van de nieuwe kathedraal. 

Het is er heet maar de lokale bevolking werkt nog hard: schoenen poetsen, ijs verkopen, sjaals verkopen of het parlement bewaken. We trokken enkele mooie foto's en gaven wat geld aan de vrouw met baby op haar rug. Onze eigen beveiligingsagent was waakzaam voor zakkenrollers op dit drukke plein.
