Singapore Flower Dome, a discovery of plants and flowers of the world

Before entering the Flower Dome greenhouse gardens, you walk through a tunnel of light displays. You are drawn into the world of flowers and color. For some of the flower pictures, I made use of my macro lens.

The glass dome or biotope is 16.000m² and oval shaped. Many plants originate from a warm tropical climate. It is always warm here with a very high humidity. The different kinds of cactuses made an impression, some were high as trees. The art of wood carving is exceptional. The Flower Dome and Cloud Forest are certainly worth a visit.

Om de Flower Dome te betreden wandel je door een tunnel met lichtpanelen. Je wordt de wereld van bloemen en kleur ingezogen. Voor sommige foto’s hebben wij onze macrolens gebruikt. 

De glazen koepel of biotoop is een 16.000m² groot ovaal. Vele planten komen uit tropische gebieden. Het is hier steeds warm met een heel hoge vochtigheidsgraad. De verschillende soorten cactussen lieten diepe indruk na, sommigen waren zo hoog als een boom. De houtsnijwerkkunst is buitengewoon. We kunnen een bezoekje aan de Flower Dome en het Cloud Forest zeker aanbevelen.

Gardens by the Bay during the day, Singapore

The gardens and park are still beautiful but the magic of the night is gone. The supertrees are metal giants, almost misplaced in an environment of plants and flowers. Now the real species take the leading role in the theatre of nature.

We are still amazed with the views of the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore Flyer, greenhouse domes and views of the suburbs. When you only have the time to visit the garden only once and you have to choose between day and night, always go for the night.

De tuinen en het park zijn nog steeds mooi maar de magie van de nacht is verdwenen. De supertrees zijn metalen reuzen, bijna misplaatst in een omgeving van planten en bloemen. De levende organismen spelen nu de hoofdrol in het theater van de natuur. 

We waren nog steeds verbaasd van de zichten over het Marina Bay Sands Hotel, de Singapore Flyer, de biomen en de woondistricten. Wanneer je enkel tijd hebt voor één bezoek en je moet een keuze maken tussen dag en nacht, zou ik altijd voorkeur aan de nacht geven.

Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay at night, Singapore

The Gardens by the Bay at night are for us the best attraction of Singapore. From the moment we knew Singapore was on our travel plans, this park was the top priority visit on our wish list. The Gardens by the Bay are part of a project to make Singapore greener, a so called Garden City.

The supertrees are enormous, up to 50 meters high. They are made of metal and light up in the evening. The changing colors are fantastic. Everything is management in a futuristic ecological way. The Supertrees contain rare plants and flowers and generate energy via solar panels.

From the Gardens you have perfect views on the Marina Bay Sands Hotel, the garden greenhouses and the Singapore Flyer. Walking from the Merlion at the Marina Bay, overlooking the water, skyline of Singapore, futuristic bridges, making your way into the gardens and stay a while. This is an experience of a life time, take your time, spend a few evening hours here, you will be amazed. The Gardens by the Bay are open for everyone, free of charge.

De Gardens by the Bay zijn voor ons de beste bezienswaardigheid van Singapore. Vanaf het moment we wisten dat Singapore op onze reisplannen stond, was dit park als hoogste gerangschikt op onze bezoeklijst. De Gardens by the Bay is een project om Singapore groener te maken, een zogenaamde tuinstad.

De Supertrees zijn enorm, soms tot een hoogte van 50 meter. Ze zijn gemaakt van metaal en verlicht na zonsondergang. De veranderingen van kleuren zijn fantastisch. Alles wordt beheerd op een ecologische wijze. De Supertrees bevatten zeldzame planten en bloemen, en generen energie via zonnepanelen. 

Van in de tuinen heb je een uitstekend zicht op het Marina Bay Sands Hotel, de glazen biomen en de Singapore Flyer. Maak een wandeling van de Merlion aan de Marina Bay, kijkende over het water naar de Skyline, de futuristische bruggen naar de tuinen en blijf daar een tijdje. Dit is een unieke levenservaring, reserveer hier gerust enkele uren voor, je wordt omvergeblazen van verbazing. De Garden by the Bay zijn gratis toegankelijk voor iedereen.

Cloud Forest conservatory Treetop walk, Singapore

The Cloud Forest dome is part of “The Gardens by the Bay” and has won so many awards for architecture, design and green leadership. The gardens are all about nature and working on sustainability, a hot topic with the climate changes our planet is undergoing. The year 2014 has been recorded as the warmest since 1833 when we started measuring temperatures in a structural way.

When you enter the Cloud Forest dome you are facing a 35 meter tall indoor waterfall, the highest in the world. The cool breeze of air and spray is a relief compared to the outdoors burning sun. Visitors start their walk climbing the wall of plants via a comfortable path. Inside the dome the humidity is very high, up to 90%. The temperatures vary depending of the height of the rain forest.

Once at the top of the rain forest, “The Lost World” you continue your way on the “Cloud Walk”, a mist trail. Slowly you make your way down to the lowest level, “The Secret Garden”. The plants, flowers and waterfall are amazing. The architecture of the glass dome doesn’t stop to impress. We will write other articles of “The Gardens by the Bay” because this whole area is for us the most beautiful attraction of Singapore.

Het “Wolkenbos” maakt deel uit van de “Gardens by the Bay” en heeft vele prijzen gewonnen voor architectuur, ontwerp en groen beleid. De tuinen concentreren zich op natuur en de instandhouding ervan, een gevoelig onderwerp met de klimaatveranderingen die onze planeet ondergaan. Het jaar 2014 werd in de geschiedenis opgenomen als warmste jaar ooit sinds de start van de structurele temperatuur metingen in 1833.

Als je het “Wolkenbos” binnengaat sta je voor een indoor waterval van 35 meter hoog, de hoogste van de wereld. Een koele bries en de spray van het water is een genot in vergelijking met de brandende zon buiten de koepel. Bezoekers beginnen hun wandeling op de plantenmuur via een comfortabel wandelpad. In de koepel loopt de luchtvochtigheid op tot 90%. De temperaturen wisselen afhankelijk van de hoogte van het regenwoud. 

Eens aan de top van het regenwoud, “De verloren Wereld” ga je verder op de “Wolkenwandeling”, een mistig pad. Langzaam cirkelend naar beneden tot aan het laagste niveau “De Verboden Tuin”. De planten, bloemen en waterval zijn ongelooflijk. De architectuur van het glazen huis blijft imponeren. We gaan nog enkele artikelen schrijven over “The Gardens by the Bay” want dit gebied is voor ons de mooiste bezienswaardigheid van Singapore.
