Malta Dance Sport Cup, WDSF Senior I Standard

For the second year in a row we participated in the Malta Dance Sport Cup at the SAS Radisson Hotel at Golden Bay Beach. It was so busy at work the last few months that we had to reduce our number of weekly dance sessions. Nevertheless we were very happy with our competitive performance in Malta.

On the rather compact hotel dance floor we started with 13 couples in one heat. It was crowded and sticking to your normal routine just impossible. This is an excellent opportunity to work on floorcraft and we enjoyed it. We end the competition in the 9th place. All finalist were Italian, a strong dance country and the top four clearly were better than us. The Malta Dance Cup is one of our favorite dance competitions of the year, we always combine it with an extended weekend on the Mediterian island.

We have not been reporting of our last three competitions in Belgium (Brussels, Antwerp and Arendonk). We participated in the Antwerp WDSF and two Belgian Preselections to qualify for the National Championship. The Preselections were very small but high level competitions with direct finals.

Voor het tweede jaar op rij deden we mee aan de Malta Dance Sport Cup in het SAS Radisson Hotel aan Golden Bay Beach. De laatste maanden was het zo druk op het werk dat we onze wekelijkse trainingssessies moesten verlagen. Niettegenstaande deze omstandigheden waren we heel blij met onze dansprestatie in Malta.

Op een redelijk compacte hotelvloer dansten we met 13 paren in één heat. Het was druk en het vasthouden aan je normale choreografie is onmogelijk. Dit was een uitstekende opportuniteit om onze floorcraft te oefenen en we genoten er van. Uiteindelijk werden we 9de. Alle finalisten kwamen uit Italië, een heel sterk dansland en de top vier was duidelijk beter als ons. De Malta Dance Sport Cup is één van onze favoriete jaarlijkse competities. We combineren dit altijd met een verlengd weekend op het Mediterrane eiland. 

Over onze laatste drie Belgische competities (Antwerpen, Brussel en Arendonk) hebben we geen verslag geschreven. We namen deel aan de WDSF in Antwerpen en twee Belgische Preselecties voor kwalificatie aan het Nationaal Kampioenschap. De Preselecties waren klein met directe finales van goede kwaliteit.

Ghajn Tuffieha Tower between Golden Bay and Tuffieha Bay, Mellieha

When you rent a car on Malta, you certainly have to visit these two bays. The best view point is from the Ghajn Tuffieha Tower located just between the two bays. The tower was built during the 12th century on which Maltese knights stood guard to protect their island against invading troops.

Today, it is a tourist view point. Tuffieha Bay is rough, a place that can only be reached on foot. Here you can enjoy the sea and nature without the crowds. Golden Bay is more touristic, you can leave your car right in front of the beach and there are several bars and restaurants. We really enjoyed our morning walks on the beach. A few hours before the start of our dance competition we were still walking on the Golden Bay Beach.

Als je auto huurt in Malta moet je zeker deze twee baaien bezoeken. Het beste uitzicht op de twee stranden heb je van aan de Ghajn Tuffieha Toren. Deze voormalige wachttoren uit de 12de eeuw werd gebruikt door de Maltese ridders om hun eiland te beschermen tegen binnenvarende troepen. 

Vandaag, is het een uitkijkpost voor toeristen. Tuffieha Bay is ruw, een plaatsje ongerepte natuur dat enkel te voet kan worden bereikt. Hier kan je van de zee en het strand genieten zonder de drukte om je heen. Golden Bay is toeristisch, je auto vlak voor het strand parkeren is mogelijk en er zijn verschillende bars en restaurants. We hebben echt genoten van onze strandwandelingen. Een paar uren voor we aan onze danscompetitie begonnen waren we nog aan het wandelen op Golden Bay Beach.

Radisson Blu Resort & Spa Golden Sands, Mellieha, Malta

This 5 Star luxury resort is located on one of the most beautiful swimming beaches of Malta, the Golden Bay. The hotel is located on a hill top and has amazing views on the Mediterranean Sea and beach.

As expected our room has many facilities, looks good and the beds are excellent. This is very important for our dance competition which was hosted here last weekend. A small disadvantage is that the hotel is isolated and in the evening you need to have a car to dine outside. The restaurants in the hotel themselves have a large selection of dishes but are very noisy, something we don’t like.

What do we consider the best of the Radisson Blu hotel? That’s easy, the swimming pools. The indoor Lagoon Pool is heated and the outdoor pools & tropical gardens a dream. The views on the beach and mountains are just perfect.

Dit 5 Sterren luxe hotel is gelegen aan één van de mooiste zandstranden van Malta, de Golden Bay. Het hotel staat boven op een heuvel met prachtige uitzichten op de Middellandse Zee en het strand.

Zoals verwacht had onze kamer alle faciliteiten, zag er goed uit en het bed was uitstekend. Een goede nachtrust is heel belangrijk als voorbereiding van onze danswedstrijd die hier vorig weekend werd georganiseerd. Een klein nadeel is dat je een auto dient te huren om buiten het hotel te gaan eten, indien je dit wenst. De restaurants in het hotel zelf zijn groot en luidruchtig, iets wat wij niet aangenaam vinden. 

Wat is het beste aan het Radisson Blu hotel? Voor ons de zwembaden. Het binnenzwembad is verwarmd en de buitenzwembaden met tropische tuin lijken net een droom. Het zicht op de zee en bergen is perfect.
