Views from the radio tower (Rheinturm) Dusseldorf

The Rheinturm or the radio tower of Dusseldorf is a real landmark for the city. It has a height of 240m and the views from the bar and restaurant are fantastic. Around the tower and alongside the Rhein river, the German city has erected modern buildings which we are going to cover in our next article. Now you see them from above.

The blue line visible on some pictures are from the bar ambilights. While taking some shots Kristel pulls me back, careful you don’t fall through the glass window. Kim took advantage of this situation by taking several pictures. It was great fun to visit this tower with our friends from Belgium.

De Rheinturm of de Radiotoren van Dusseldorf is een icoon voor de stad. Met zijn 240m hoogte zijn de zichten van uit de bar of het restaurant fantastisch. Dicht bij de toren en haven staan vele moderne gebouwen die we zullen tonen in ons volgende artikel. Nu zie je ze van bovenuit. 

De blauwe lijnen in sommige foto’s komen van de sfeerlichten in de bar. Terwijl ik enkele diepte foto’s nam trok Kristel mij terug, voorzichtig dat je niet door de glazen wand valt. Kim nam natuurlijk van deze situatie gebruik om enkele foto’s te trekken. Het was heel leuk deze toren te bezoeken met onze Belgische vrienden.

Views of Seattle and Mount Rainier from the Space Needle

The observation deck of the 184 meters high tower offers visitors views of the city center, port and even Mount Rainier on clear days. On that day, we saw it at the horizon, covered in snow. The Space Needle is the symbol of Seattle and likely the most visited building.

Our first picture is taking in front of a blue key. It was offered to us free of charge together with buying an entrance ticket. The shots from high above the city are very good. You get a nice view of the skyscrapers. We recommend to visit the Space Needle when you are in Seattle.

Het observatiedek van de 184 meter hoge toren biedt bezoekers zichten op het stadscentrum, de haven en zelfs Mount Rainier op heldere dagen. Die dag zagen we de besneeuwde berg vaag aan de horizon. De Space Needle is het symbool van Seattle, waarschijnlijk het meest bezochte gebouw van de stad. 

Onze eerste foto werd getrokken voor een blue key. Het werd ons gratis aangeboden bij ons inkomkaartje. De foto's van hoog boven de stad zijn zeer goed. Je krijgt er een prachtig zicht op de wolkenkrabbers. We raden iedereen aan de Space Needle te bezoeken als ze in Seattle zijn.

Asinelli Tower and the Manhattan of medieval times, Bologna

Looking at the city of Bologna today, you still see a few of the high medieval towers but in the 13th century Bologna was a collection of such towers. You saw them everywhere like skyscrapers in New York, this was the medieval Manhattan of the 13th century.

We decided to climb the highest still existing tower of the city, the Asinelli Tower with a height of 97 meters. It is almost 900 years old and leaning, so don’t think too much before going in the construction. Eventually we think the tower will fall, the question is when?

It was very difficult to take a picture of the Asinelli Tower without the electricity wiring in the foreground. Since this was not possible, we used the wiring to our advantage and made something special from it. The views from the top are excellent but you need to climb the stairs, there is no elevator.

Als we vandaag naar de stad Bologna kijken zien we nog enkele middeleeuwse torens maar gedurende de 13de eeuw was Bologna een verzameling van zulke torens. Overal waar je keek stonden ze, net zoals wolkenkrabbers in New York. Dit was het Manhattan van de 13de eeuw. 

We besloten de hoogste toren van de stad te beklimmen, de Asinelli Toren met een top van 97 meter. Deze toren is bijna 900 jaar oud en staat heel scheef, niet te veel nadenken vooraleer de toren binnen te gaan. Ooit zal deze vallen en vraag is enkel wanneer. 

Het was heel moeilijk een foto van de Asinelli Toren te nemen zonder de bovengrondse elektriciteitskabels te zien. Daar dit bijna niet mogelijk was besloten we deze kabels in ons voordeel te gebruiken en er iets artistiek van te maken. Het zicht over de stad is prachtig maar je moet wel te voet naar boven klimmen, er zijn geen liften.

Ghajn Tuffieha Tower between Golden Bay and Tuffieha Bay, Mellieha

When you rent a car on Malta, you certainly have to visit these two bays. The best view point is from the Ghajn Tuffieha Tower located just between the two bays. The tower was built during the 12th century on which Maltese knights stood guard to protect their island against invading troops.

Today, it is a tourist view point. Tuffieha Bay is rough, a place that can only be reached on foot. Here you can enjoy the sea and nature without the crowds. Golden Bay is more touristic, you can leave your car right in front of the beach and there are several bars and restaurants. We really enjoyed our morning walks on the beach. A few hours before the start of our dance competition we were still walking on the Golden Bay Beach.

Als je auto huurt in Malta moet je zeker deze twee baaien bezoeken. Het beste uitzicht op de twee stranden heb je van aan de Ghajn Tuffieha Toren. Deze voormalige wachttoren uit de 12de eeuw werd gebruikt door de Maltese ridders om hun eiland te beschermen tegen binnenvarende troepen. 

Vandaag, is het een uitkijkpost voor toeristen. Tuffieha Bay is ruw, een plaatsje ongerepte natuur dat enkel te voet kan worden bereikt. Hier kan je van de zee en het strand genieten zonder de drukte om je heen. Golden Bay is toeristisch, je auto vlak voor het strand parkeren is mogelijk en er zijn verschillende bars en restaurants. We hebben echt genoten van onze strandwandelingen. Een paar uren voor we aan onze danscompetitie begonnen waren we nog aan het wandelen op Golden Bay Beach.
