Flowers in Singapore. Trying out my new Vitacon Macro Lens.

In 2013, I bought my first good camera, a Nikon D7100 with AF-S Nikkor 18-200 mm lens. After about 1,5 years I still do not know the ins and outs of the camera but learned a few things. The two most frequent situations I would like to improve were Macro photography and food pictures. In Singapore, we bought a Vitacon combination Lens (Macro and 72mm wide angle) which improves both types of photography.

The pictures below show examples of shots taken with the macro lens. When taking the pictures you need to stay still and come really close to your subject. Taking normal pictures with this lens is impossible. We are pleased with the results.

In 2013, kocht ik mijn eerste goede camera, een Nikon D7100 met AF-S Nikkor 18-200mm lens. Na ongeveer 1,5 jaar ken ik nog niet alle mogelijkheden van de camera maar leerde toch wel wat bij. De meest frequente situaties waar ik in wilde verbeteren waren macro fotografie en gastronomie foto’s. In Singapore hebben we een Vitacon combinatie lens (Macro en 72mm breed hoek) gekocht die beide soorten fotografie kan verbeteren. 

De foto’s hieronder tonen enkele voorbeelden van kiekjes getrokken met de macro lens. Als je de foto’s trekt dien je heel dicht bij het onderwerp te zijn en je camera stil te houden. Normale foto’s kan je echter niet met deze lens trekken. We zijn tevreden met het resultaat.

Taking pictures of running dogs with the Nikon 7100

As first subject to learn about my new camera, the Nikon 7100, I selected speed photography. Taking pictures of moving objects. On what am I going to practice? Well Tessa our Golden Retriever is going to help me. Kristel throws the ball into my direction and I keep on taking pictures of Tessa running by.

All running pictures are taken at a shutter speed of 1/1250sec. The first three with an exposure of f/4,5 and ISO125. However, I would like to have Tessa a lot sharper. So I tried increasing the exposure to f/8 more focus on the foreground where Tessa is running but now the picture was too dark. I continued increasing exposure up to f/13 and ISO400. The pictures are still too dark. I need more practice and do not yet succeed to put the focus only on the running dog. I also added some static pictures of Tommie and Tessa.

Als eerste onderwerp om met mijn nieuwe camera, de Nikon 7100, te oefenen koos ik snelheid. Het fotograferen van bewegende objecten. Op wat ga ik oefenen? Wel, Tessa onze Golden Retriever zal mij wel wat helpen. Kristel gooit de bal in mijn richting en ik neem steeds foto’s van de voorbij rennende Tessa. 

Alle bewegende foto’s hebben een versnelde sluitertijd van 1/1250sec. De eerste drie foto’s met een diafragma van f/4,5 en ISO125. Graag had ik Tessa wat scherper gehad. Zo ik probeerde het diafragma te verhogen om de focus meer op de voorgrond te brengen waar Tessa loopt. De foto’s waren echter te donker. Ik bleef het diafragma verhogen tot f/13 alsook de ISO tot 400. De foto’s zijn nog steeds een beetje donker. Ik moet meer ervaring opdoen en slaag er nog niet in de scherpte enkel op de lopende hond te leggen. Omdat ik ze leuk vind voeg ik nog enkele stilstaande beelden van Tommie en Tessa toe aan het artikel..

Our dogs and my first test with the new Nikon 7100 SLR

I have tried out my new Nikon 7100 on our dogs in and outside the house. I still have to learn how to work with the camera so all pictures were taken in auto mode. On request of a few people who knew I bought a new camera and regularly ask about it, I am publishing a few pictures earlier than foreseen.

The small black Shi Tzu is Tommie and the Golden Retriever is Tessa. These are our dogs. The little brown one is from our parents who were visiting us. I am very pleased with the sharpness and brightness of the pictures. With my previous compact camera it was impossible to take sharp pictures of moving objects. So I am happy with my purchase.

Ik heb mijn nieuwe Nikon 7100 uitgeprobeerd op onze honden in en buiten het huis. De mogelijkheden van het toestel zijn me echter nog niet duidelijk en daardoor zijn de foto's in auto modus getrokken. Op verzoek van enkele mensen die wisten dat ik een nieuwe camera gekocht had en er regelmatig naar vragen, publiceer ik enkele foto's vroeger dan voorzien. 

De kleine zwarte Shi Tzu is Tommie en de Golden Retriever is Tessa. Dit zijn onze honden. De kleine bruine hond is van onze ouders die op bezoek waren. Ik ben zeer blij met de scherpte en belichting van de foto's. Met mijn vorig compact fototoestel was het niet mogelijk scherpe foto's te maken van bewegende objecten. Dus ben ik blij met mijn aankoop.
