The Rumelihisari fortress dates from the 15th century and was built by Sultan Mehmet II. From the fortress the sultan had control of all vessels heading to the Black Sea. Next to the fortress you see the Faith Sultan Mehmet Bridge, a modern piece of architecture from this time period.
Het was nog ochtend en er stond een koude wind op de Bosporus. Er was ook nog wat mist. Toch is het beter in de voormiddag een boottrip te maken, want later op de dag zijn de vaartuigen overladen met toeristen.
Het Rumelihisari fort werd gebouwd door Sultan Mehmet II in de 15de eeuw. Met dit fort beheerste hij de toegang van alle vaartuigen naar de Zwarte Zee. Iets noordelijker zie je de Faith Sultan Mehmet Bridge, een sterk staaltje van moderne architectuur uit deze tijd.
