The silk capital of China, Suzhou

In the city of Suzhou we visited a silk factory. After being introduced to the little silk worms, we saw the cocoons and the historical weaving process. Next to the manual work, the factory also produces silk products with new technologies and industrial machines.

Silk has been a trading article in Suzhou for more than 800 years. The town is known for its fine quality and craftsmen worked for royal families and foreign traders like Marco Polo.

In de stad Suzhou bezochten we een zijdefabriek. Na de introductie van de zijdeworm, zagen we de cocons en het traditionele weefproces. Naast het manuele werk, produceert men hier ook industriële zijde door gebruik van de nieuwste technologieën. 

Zijde is reeds meer dan 800 jaar een handelsproduct voor Suzhou. De kwaliteit staat hoog in het vaandel en klanten van Koninklijke families bleven niet uit. De meest beroemde buitenlandse klant was Marco Polo.
